Re: RENEWING MY UK PASSPORT
Pleng - I travel to HCMC again next week, returning 22 December and have no plans to travel after that.
I will be lodging my application on 23 December - so won't know for a while yet.
Start to finish of 8 weeks sound about right from what I've heard.
You keep your old passport for I.D. purposes but you are supposed not to travel. Frankly I don't see how they can monitor that one ......................

A tight squeeze of you're on a 60-day entry permit from a tourist Visa, then!Terry wrote: Start to finish of 8 weeks sound about right from what I've heard.
Well last time I renewed my passport in the UK, they returned my old one with the corner cut off rendering it unusable. I suppose they could do the same in BKK??You keep your old passport for I.D. purposes but you are supposed not to travel. Frankly I don't see how they can monitor that one ......................

Re: RENEWING MY UK PASSPORT
To update those of you needing to update your UK passport. I applied for new UK passports, for my son and me, on the 18th December, at the Trendy Building in Bangkok. I was told that it would take 6-12 weeks for the new passports to arrive . To my surprise, I have been advised by email, that the new passports are already awaiting collection from the Trendy Building. To collect the new passports you must take the old passports with you for cancellation.
A little over 3 weeks for the service and over the Christmas and new year period. I must say that I am surprised and impressed
Now I need to brace myself for the process of getting my visa transferred in BKK. This is not a hard process but due to teh numbers of people queuing, it usually takes the whole morning.

Re: RENEWING MY UK PASSPORT
A friend recently received her New Passport in BKK. When she tried to transfer her current visa from the Old Passport to the New Passport at HH Immigration she was told to provide a letter from the Embassy in BKK (cost 30 GBP) confirming the New Passport is genuine. The reason given by HH Immigration is that without any travel stamps they cannot confirm the New Passport is genuine.

Re: RENEWING MY UK PASSPORT
Once you've got the new passport is it possible to leave the country, showing the visa on the old passport - if you only have a few days left of our stay, for example?
Re: RENEWING MY UK PASSPORT
Yes, that should be fine.
Re: RENEWING MY UK PASSPORT

Re: Renewing a UK passport from Thailand
I am in a state of wondrous shock
Got a call from 'Trendy' building this p.m.
My new Passport is ready for collection - it arrived in Bangkok yesterday -20 days after it was applied for - including the New Year holiday
So - maybe someone put a ferret up the trouser legs of the Liverpoon Passport Office
What about the 6-8 weeks
Anyways I collect in the morning - deliver to my secretary in Bangkok and she can go get the Visa transferred - she says it's easy - let's see.
For now I am a happy bunny.

Ok thanks. So as far as I understand, you only need to transfer the visa if you are intending to extend your stay?lomuamart wrote:Yes, that should be fine.

Re: Renewing a UK passport from Thailand
Picked up the New Passport at 'Trendy' this a.m
No problems - my secretary will try and get the visa transferred this afternoon, here in Bangkok - let's see what happens
........................................................................................................................................
Note to Matlot
I managed to get UK Passports for my two sons last year, no problem and used the info at the link provided by Dannie Boy.
The only difference was that I was able to lodge the applications at the Bangkok Consular section which has now been superseded by the application at the 'Trendy' Building.
I have found the staff there to be friendly and efficient
Good luck
