Is Hua Hin Immigration office open 09th May 2016

Does anyone know whether Hua Hin Immigration office is open on Monday 09th May 2016? I have heard through what sometimes is the unreliable grapevine that Monday (09th) is a public holiday.

Well, according to my Thai diary, and the following website, the Royal Ploughing Ceremony is on Monday the 9th May 2016:

Well, just to confuse things, here is an extract from a friend's e-mail, yesterday:

Immigration was a doddle possibly due to the fact it was bloody closed! Until 9th. So as we don't know whether it's inclusive or not we're playing it safe and going 10th

According to the Bangkok Bank website, the 9th is not a bank holiday and the bank will be open. It was closed 2nd (in lieu of Labour Day, the 5th (Coronation Day) and the 6th (extra holiday) but will be open on the 9th.

IT is not open on the 9th sign on door says closed from 5th to 9th.

I think you're correct LB. Even the staff are confused. Out of 3 immigration staff I phoned this morning, 2 said they were closed tomorrow while 1 said she'd be turning up for work.

Royal Ploughing Day is the holiday that causes confusion. It's not a fixed date and is set by astrology, sometimes very late. In fact I think that 2017 doesn't have a Ploughing Day at all! To allow for this vague section of the calendar, an extra holiday is added in May to account for this. It does seem that Immigration will take both the extra holiday and the Ploughing Day which I'm told they shouldn't.

The above information is from a well educated Thai and not from me. I just take it at face value.

Royal Ploughing Ceremony has never been a holiday. It's a tradition not to say a superstition.

My 90 day was due today May 10. There was a good sized crowd when I arrived for the 8:30 opening and more were arriving every minute. The doors opened promptly with the good bit of pushing/shoving when farang #5 decided that since he had his queue number he wanted to go right back out the same door everyone was trying to come through! Some cross words but no damage done.
I thought it was GREAT that the staff finally made it into work about 9'ish. A couple of the younger ladies came out into the crowd and asked for passports for 90 day and they got them done right sharpish after that.

The uni girl in charge of the queue machine was very cute. I did not need it but the copy machine was broken. I had a good breakfast as the Baguette.
