Trouble at Mill

Post by Guess »

Violence between Farang in Hua Hin seems to be on the increase.

My wife has had two incidents in her bar in the last two months both of which left people in hospital.

After the hectic but very enjoyable party at JW's we decided to head down fo a bit of Karaoke.

On the way I passed a HHAD moderator who told me that there had been trouble at the Night Bazaar and it maybe not a good place to go. We figured that enough time had passed and that everything should have settled down by them.

When we arrived we found that many of the bars were closed because of earlier disturbances.

This drunken behaviour by a minority of idiots is riuning Hua Hin foe everybody.

Has anybody got any ideas what can be done. The local officialdom have no interest whatsoever if a situation will not line their pockets.

This is not that unusual as Night bazaar is last port of call for guys after all the bars are locked down and all he girls are drifting away from the Hilton after an unsuccesslul evening at the disco,This alone should make anyone careful to go there.Over the years have seen a fair bit of disruption there but that really is what always happens at the last call but have also had some great evnings there.have been many posts on this site about this problem but it would not put me off going but you takes your chance.Inebriation often brings the worst out in people

Yes Digger I agree but it would be nice to see a few security guards around or even a few tourist police but of course we all know that they are asleep when all the trouble occurs.

On two occasions this year I have had to deal with shit myself followed the next day by a police thank you and a pat on the back.

I am getting too old for it.

It would also seem that there was trouble in the Bintabaht over the weekend.

From what i am told it was the usual suspects being arrogant and flexing their clout in the town.

Sad that these people who make their living here now think that anything goes and are above the law, kicking s-it out of a decent bar owner will aquire them few friends.

But as we all know, what goes round comes round.

It is getting all too common now, even for me and I don't even go out very often.

The fight in the karaoke bar was over a girl ... what a surprise.

Digger's comments sum it up pretty well. Also I don't think the police give a toss unless a) they can make out of it or b) there are Thais involved too.

I assume it was Headstone as that was the only Karaoke that was closed.

It was. I think they've changed ownership or management as the new lot are a miserable bunch.

buksida,
It hasn't changed ownership; it's just that the owner (Or) was away for the Chinese New Year as far as I can gather. I get the feeling that there may have been trouble there earlier, possibly with the same guy/girl, as they were very swift in chucking everyone out and closing. Can't blame them really - I don't normally go there on a Saturday night but it wouldn't surprise me if it's a normal Saturday thing as it is in many parts of the world. Probably much worse because it is peak season so there are more idiots around.

For me, as the town grows at the rate it is, then it will only get worse.

The only real solution for me is, as Guess has said, security guards/the police.
Two security men, with radio contact to the old bill, work from 9pm till 6am (or whenever the karaoke bars close), walking the bar circuit. On to the karaoke bars after the normal bars shut around 1-2am, just in time for the exodus from the Hilton to the karaoke area.
Security men 15,000 Baht each a month, that's about 20 Baht per day, per bar.

OK my reason for this post, heres a question about the karaoke bars, are they actualy open till 6am? and do they serve beer? thats all see you all soon in HH

Mr skyrider,
I think in comparison to many places Hua Hin has very little trouble, but if there is any it tends to be in either the Night Bazaar area where the karaokes are, or in the bar areas. As I said earlier, in peak season there are more people here and so more potential problems, and inevitably weekends are the busiest time. The karaokes (and some other places) will stay open while there are enough customers to make it worth their while (or, as in this thread, there is trouble, whether that be from customers or police); they will continue to serve, and I have personally been in at least two of them on more than one occasion beyond 6am, and even gone for breakfast with the owner! One thing that many people should remember for Thailand in general is that the karaokes are a popular place for the Thais to go, and they will most often outnumber the farangs - no problem with that at all but if a farang gets out of order he will be sorted out Thai style! This can sometimes mean innocent bystanders being caught up in it so be aware.
Having said all that I have had many many more enjoyable and very drunk nights in the karaokes than ones with problems - I can only think of three times that I have personally witnessed anything in over 3 years in Hua Hin.

I agree with wanderlust that in the 8 years I've been coming to Hua Hin I have seen little trouble and have been involed in none ( being 6'3 and 14 stone probably helps a bit also?).
The only ones that come to mind involved either falangs who were pissed and arguing usualy about a girl or between Thai/ Falang when usually the falang was being either abusive or totaly impolite.
If your a happy drunk and can take the mai pen rai attitude with you, you will have no problems.
Conversley if you act like a prick when on the piss and treat the locals with disrespect you can expect what you would in any other part of the world. Luckily Hua Hin has not seen the influx of the heavily tatooed muslenecks as yet but if they start to move down here I'm sure the amounts of violence will increase.
Was in Nungs bar a couple of months ago when 2 of the aforementioned wanted to fight over whose turn it was to play pool !. Was settled without punches due to weight of numbers but these guys were up for it and not the sort of guys we need here.
