Please?
Please?
Came up in another thread that perhaps there isn't any direct word? I have two in my mind but don't know the exact translations, forgive the possibly poor transliteration. Experts please expand and explain. Pete

Re: Please?
Perhaps KARUNA or PROAD ?
Courage is grace under pressure and when circumstances change you change your mind.
Re: Please?
This should solve it, although there are more than I thought.

Point to the Thai word and it will give an English definition. I think for example when ordering a beer, 'chuay' would be the only one to use. Pete

For example "Kor Beer Chang Lek Neung Khrap"
Re: Please?
It is my understanding that 'kor' is a polite version of 'ouw' translated to mean want or may I have.?

If you were ordering a beer you would use Kor not Chuay.poosmate wrote:It is my understanding that 'kor' is a polite version of 'ouw' translated to mean want or may I have.?
There's no direct translation.
Re: Please?
I don't know as much Thai as I should, but I believe that "kor" can be used when asking for something that you don't pay for - ie, an ashtray in a bar.
If you want a beer, you should say "ow".
If you want a beer, you should say "ow".
Re: Please?
Alright, my missus has corrected me. You can use both "kor" and "aw". Dosn't matter whether something is free or not.
Re: Please?
Edit.
Lomu's already answered his own question.

Re: Please?
I confused. So my understanding that 'kor' means I want ( politely) is not correct?

Re: Please?
Quite similar to please then?poosmate wrote:I confused. So my understanding that 'kor' means I want ( politely) is not correct?
'kor' means please?
In my mind "Kor Beer" is "Beer please", "Ao Beer" is "Want Beer"
Kor is a polite way of asking for something, like adding please, There's no direct equivalent as the languages have zero in common.
It's a bit like looking for a direct translation of "Khrap" There isn't one.
Re: Please?
In my understanding 'Noy' is the closest thing to please you will get in Thai
eg...
Kor Beer Chang (hai) noy
Correct if I'm wrong noy.
eg...
Kor Beer Chang (hai) noy
Correct if I'm wrong noy.
If it's within arms reach, there's nothing to worry about!!
Re: Please?
May I have? There's no direct equivalent
I have also heard noy/noi used
Kor menu 'noi'. May I have menu a menu ??? little? please?

Re: Please?
Since writing the above I've been told that 'chuay' really means 'help'. Which fits for me, HELP, I need a beer! Pete
