Golf in Hua Hin

Post by DaveT »

If anyone has a little time and can be bothered, could they please give me opinions of the various golf courses in close proximity to HH?

What's the best, worst and why?

If you guys can be bothered it would great to see the 1-5 in order of preference and why.

Hi DaveT,

All of the courses here are good, depends very much on what you like.
Lake View, Springfiled and Majestic are all good tracks.
Springfield is a little one dimensional, typical early Nicklaus course, waste bunkers and most holes turn left to right. Usually in good order (very good at the moment) but a little expensive with good facilities.
Lake View is more interesting, quite a few holes dont require driver and position is important, get on the wrong side of the holes and it can be punishing. Again usually good condition (not at the moment though!). Majestic is a great layout with many memorable shots to hit. Greens are not very good, very course grass that is not very nice to putt. Also they have real slopes that mean they have only a few fair pin placements. Could be the best if they tore the greens up and started again.
Palm Hills - easiest course here, and it nice to play but not very challenging.
Royal Hua Hin -Great golf course, very tough and very much sort of english style. condition very good now because of the rain, poor irrigation means that in the high season its not always at it s best.
Milford (now Korean owned) was a very tough course with glass like greens and many ball losing opportunities! Have not played there for ages and i am told its not very good anymore.

A little further out (about 1.5 hours) you have Royal Ratchaburi, Dragon Hills and a military course. The first 2 are great and should be played for sure. The military is ok but last on the list for this area.

Hope this gives you some ideas. The Golf Society website is www.huahingolfsociety.com. Take a look as a visitor here its a good way to get golf at a slighlty discounted rate and meet local people and fellow golfers.

Cheers

I did your right, its pretty good, last few are quite tough and its worth a trip. It has always been in decent order when ive played it. Didnt mention Fort Dhanarat either, ok if you just want a knockaround without spending big money.
The two new courses that are being built both have massive potential, the one to the West being called Queens Valley (something like this anyway) looks great, have ridden the holes on motorbike and it s gonna be a stunna. Banyan to the south end of town is due to start on the 5th of August, this will be more natural i think  - the land is BEAUTIFUL and if they get it right it will be mega!! Due to complete Jan 5 2008. Heres looking forward to that.
