BUT
I NEVER ever saw any one buy one--Did You??

Re: Flower sellers
Yes there are people who buy but most have rose tinted specs and a BG on their arm. There are people that pay but don't take the flower but the poor mite is not allowed home until she has sold the lot and given the proceeds to the mafia running the operation
The lady with one arm I know runs a network of kids selling. Similarly there are beggars (as in BK) who are dropped at suitable begging sites and later collected and dumped at home. A purge at the night market some time ago by the MIB was rumbled cos they are all on a mobile alert network

A few phoney monks too, collecting money around the bars, this is a de-robe-able offense that they will get knicked for.

They make more money on their backs keeping dumb farangs happy in one night than they make in 3 months selling flowers
They are not stupid. They know big bucks when they see them. Big bucks from dumb fkucs means money for the family. Sorry, a bit of Thai logic leaked out there

Due to previous experience, Richard was able add some valuable information into the discussion about Flower Sellers with...
Shortly after he speaks quite harshly of himself by saying...
thus enabling anyone who 'wants a go' to be aware that they are 'up for it'.Some of the elder ones also have a second career

Nowt to do with experience as it's common knowledge for those of us who have lived here a while and useful information for those who have notGLCQuantum wrote:Due to previous experience, Richard was able add some valuable information into the discussion about Flower Sellers with...

Re: Flower sellers
Maybe not so much 'common knowledge' in HH but certainly in Pattaya - and i'm afraid i've seen the consequencies there first hand one night, when our regular little ' flower seller mite' sought refuge and a bit of TLC in perhaps the only bar at the time where she would find a farang woman to look after her. She was no more than 10 years old.GLCQuantum wrote:Ahhhh... we just ooze class us Westerners don't we.Nowt to do with experience as it's common knowledge for those of us who have lived here a while

That said - 'One Arm' in HH runs a business, and given her disability it's probably the only way she could have supported herself when she started out. There was - and still is - a sad lack of State support for people with disabilities in Thailand. There are also many parents who are quite happy to allow their children to be out on the streets selling whatever at all hours.
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.

In this unfortunate case it certainly doesn't sound like the poor lass was 'up for it'Maybe not so much 'common knowledge' in HH but certainly in Pattaya - and i'm afraid i've seen the consequencies there first hand one night, when our regular little ' flower seller mite' sought refuge and a bit of TLC in perhaps the only bar at the time where she would find a farang woman to look after her. Re: Flower sellers
Does anyone know anything more about the kids - such as, are they local, do they actually have/live with their families, do they get to keep any of the money? I'm assuming they don't go to school? I've asked a few people but have been given various different answers.
It is of no practical help at all to them but I really do worry sometimes when I see them....at least they do seem to go about in groups which is something (and there's the little lad with one eye who really tugs at my heart strings).

Kendo.
If the monks are fake then how can they be de robed ?
I never bought the flowers but either bought some sweets from the 7/11 to give them or bought them some street food to eat.
I never forget a face but in your case I'll make an exception!
Re: Flower sellers
Used to do the same to the 'spare a bit of change' spongers in the UK. Parked on a corner with a dog (get an allowance for that). Used to give them some dog biscuitsH2ODunc wrote: I never bought the flowers but either bought some sweets from the 7/11 to give them or bought them some street food to eat.
