cable tv

Post by lomuamart »

Having been a loyal subscriber to the above wonderful entertainment provider for some time, it occured to me yesterday that there have been a few changes over the years. Namely :

1/. My favorite Saturday morning English language cartoon channel started speaking Thai some time ago.
2/. I've lost BBC World Service/ CNN and the news channel has degenerated into Rupert Murdoch's Fox News.
3/. I can't watch live English soccer any more, so drunken Saturday nights beating up West Ham supporters are out.
4/. National Geographic has been replaced by an army of cliff climbers and canoeists. I miss my insects and David Attenborough.
5/. The COUP de GRACE - the movie channel was replaced by Star World yesterday!!

Well, the missus called cable this morning and asked the reasons for this latest cultural improvement. Was told that the royalty licence to show movies had run out, so we had to wait at least a month to get them back.

Excuse me, but I always was led to believe that cable NEVER paid royalties. They pirate everything. So, what's the difference?

I'm seriously thinking about putting up an aerial so the missus can follow the Thai soaps. At least that will keep her happy and I won't have to shell out 300 Baht a month for drivel.

Anyone feel the same way?

Cable TV Hua Hin

Dunno about Saturday mornings ... I rarely see them. Was perplexed about the missing movie channel though and even after scanning the stations, whizzing through the variety of Japanese cartoon and Thai educational channels that nobody ever watches, still couldnt find it.

So now we're stuck with the fuckwits on Fox, adventure canoeists in Alaska, more tacky American sitcoms than you can shake a remote at and ... a couple of music channels ... bring on UBC !

Oh, final word, whatever you do, under any circumstances, on fear of death, do not start putting on the Thai soaps. She'll be glued 24-7 to high pitched, pale, flaky, posh tarts from Bangkok squealing at each other about how little money their upper crust parents have given them this month or why their boyfriend has crashed the Benz forcing them go to the hospital ..... again, when they could be walking the Pekinese around the 2 rai living room.

Better alternative ... go out for a beer!

Spending time here in Pattaya I have put Sophon cable in my apartment ...

Pretty much everything described above has been mirrored here ...

I am assuming that UBC et al are starting to complain ...

As for your West Ham dig fancy a Saturday out with me, Buksida, Wanderlust, Harry Potter, Buffalo Bill et al ?

When I was last in Pattaya the Sophon cable was excellent. It had the South African Supersport which had ALL the football (even lower league stuff) one day and test cricket, boxing etc. and a live feed to sky sports news when off the air. Basically all of the other channels paled into insignificance but they still had one or two decent ones, and actually I don't think STAR World is too bad (X files, The Simpsons etc)

I thought the Charlie Cable in Cha Am was bloody shite though with only UBC Series, ABC, and DW on offer, and 2 games of football if you are lucky.

I guess the only alternative is to get the full UBC put in.

Hey. Don't take the West Ham dig too seriously. Spent a while as a Millwall supporter and that was frightening enough.
Was with Buksida this weekend and he was still wearing his West Ham shirt. Didn't come to blows. At least the bungalows didn't have cable tv!!
