golf in the rainy season

Post by roro »

I will be coming to HH in August and am wondering what the courses are like when the heavy rains come ?
Are the courses still playable, do they flood, do you just come off or carry on ?
Also, do you bother wearing waterproofs or are they to sweaty ?
Any other golf related info would be appreciated, thanks, roro. :D
If I could be the sun I'd shine in your life,
If I could be the rain I'd rain in your eyes and I'd wash away the emptiness you feel inside-PW.

Imagine playing in your home country in a "thunderstorm".
JW will be better able to advise on drainage on the courses these days. Just don't lose your grip. Keep your clubs as dry as possible.

Hi roro,
I’ve tried to finish of a round of golf in a full on tropical downpour, and I have to say that putting is a bit of a challenge when the ball is completely underwater. Like playing in the midday sun, it is definitely for mad dogs and Englishmen!

If there is some sort of weather front moving thru the area then it might turn out that you will be unable to play for a couple days. The courses do drain well but not when u get dumped on for three days in a row.

Typically the monsoon brings clouds in the afternoons and you might get a real deluge around 4 pm for a brief period......do watch out for those bolts that come out of the sky as they hit your two iron a lot better than you do.......tee off early in the am and you should have no problems

August is not supposed to be a wet month. I think the courses will be playable every day - and in good condition. August is the Golf Festival as well. That means the green fee is just 800 baht per round and that includes more or less all courses close to HH (SF normaly 3500 so it is a bargain). If we get a lot of rain it is likely to "turn up" in October.

Always find August is a good time to play in HH. Courses are all in good condition at the moment but you can be unlucky and catch a bad rainey day. Generally the best time to play is the mornings. Big bonus is that the courses are quiet so you can always get on and also cheap while the Golf Festival is on. Also cos of the cloud cover it seem to be cooler while playing.

I though you could get "local relief" if you're submerged on a green. And I'm not talking dirty

Great replies everyone, the juices are flowing waiting to get out on a course (or two).
New passports arrived today :thumb: , been on the web all afternoon looking for flights, gone up over a grand since last week, for three of us, ouch ! :cuss:
Thanks again everyone, roro.

I am sure you are right about that Lomu, I am just a hacker and play the game without resort to such niceties as the rules. It certainly makes sense though, as in water the ball goes about two inches with a putter. What happens when the hole is underwater as well? Watching the Open does nothing to prepare you for these eventualities, especially when it’s played on the only desert within several thousand miles of Liverpool!

When your ball is submerged you can move it but no closer to the hole.

And if the pin is under water, I think you'll find the course unplayable, so closed :thumb:
Only joking. If the cup of the hole is full of water, that generally would be a waterlogged course, so closed, again.
