Malaysia's Berjaya Air flies to Hua Hin

Malaysia’s Berjaya Air will commence three-weekly service between Subang Airport, (Kuala Lumpur) and Hua Hin, 8 November.

It is the first regional airline service to fly direct to Hua Hin nd will require immigration and customs services that will have to be assigned from Bangkok and paid for by the airline.

The airline has yet to finalise the schedule, but it will operate three weekly flights on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday using a 70-seat ATR72 aircraft.

The airline used to operate flights to Samui, but has halted the service since last March.

Current destinations are Tioman Island, Redang Island, Pangkor, Langawi in Malaysia and Singapore from its base in Subang. It will also commence a new service to Kota Bharu, near Thai-Malaysia border 28 October.

That would have been great a few years ago.
I used to stay at TTDI - a few minutes from the old Subang airport when working in K.L. Unfortunately its a long cab ride to down town these days.

Now - if it flew into Sepang, you could take the KLIA airport link straight in to KLCC and do some shopping......................

Could be a handy alternative for some like me. Would have thought their Dash 7 's at half the seating capacity would be the better choice, altho thinking about it , Malaysia does have a some well heeled golfers who may be the main target audience here.

Compare this to Lufthansa's Kuala Lumpur - Bangkok flight only, (a Boeing 747), which I've done 6 times this year for an average THB4,000 return. Add THB1,000 petrol to drive from Bangkok to Hua Hin and back and you have a price which Berjaya would have to match to tempt me onto their flight.

But it would be good to see Berjaya succeed and perhaps attract other airlines into Hua Hin.

Can't really comment, but 4,000 baht for a KL - Bangkok return is very good. I assume you would need to book in advance in order to get a price like that though. Also, as far as I know, it's impossible to get a taxi to Hua-Hin and back to Bangkok for 1,000 baht. If you were coming for a week, it would most likely cost you 2,000 baht for a taxi from Bangkok to Hua-Hin, and then another 2,000+ to get back to Bangkok. Added to that, you have the inconvenience of having to sit in taxis for several hours, not to mention the fact that your life will be at risk as well. Flying may be risky, but I honestly doubt there's an airline anywhere in the world that's more risky than Thai taxis.


If the airline adds Penang to their agenda, I would almost certainly use them, although to be honest, I do enjoy the train ride down there. Also, let's not forget that there were flights from Hua-Hin to Bangers a short while ago that were costing 3,000 baht one way.


I also remember that when I was in the UK, some local flights from Aberdeen to other parts of the UK cost more than I was paying for a flight to Thailand from Heathrow. In fact, that's how I managed to convince my employer to pay for my flights to Thailand.

As a side note......the last time I flew to Penang from Bangkok, a return flight cost me 1,800 baht - unbelievable.

Great deal to get to KL without any hastle for 4760 baht (all in). Certainly beats driving to Bkk for 3 hours (having to go really early incase of traffic)! KL is a great city for a few days visit if you need to get a visa or just get out of Hua Hin. Hope other airlines follow suit and we may get flights to Singapore and Hong Kong.

The airport Berjara uses is 1 1/2 hours from KL apparently. The main airport is around 25 mins.

Berjara are using Subang Airport which until about 12 - 15 yrs ago was the main international airport for KL.
It is (as the crow flies) around 15 km from the new transportation hub of KL Sentral and will take anything between 20 mins and 1 1/2 hrs depending on time of day and traffic - in a taxi.

The new International Airport - KLIA - at Sepang is around 58km (as the crow flies) from KL Sentral and can be reached by the Airport Express in around 30 mins.

A flight carrying 40 passengers from Hua Hin, Thailand, has arrived at Subang Skypark Airport on 18 December, signaling the inaugural Berjaya Air flight connecting Hua Hin, Thailand and Subang, Malaysia. The introduction of this thrice-weekly route offering 72 seats each way is a welcome news for Malaysia’s tourism industry and is an opportunity to boost tourist arrivals from Thailand.

The passengers, participants of a special familiarization group, are here at the invitation of Berjaya Air to see and experience Malaysia first hand; they include the Lord Mayor of Hua Hin, Mr Nopporn Vuttikul, Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, Mr. Weera Sriwathanatrakoon, Tourism Authority of Thailand Director, Mr Wiboon Nimitwanich, guests from Hua Hin Municipality Government, travel agents, and media officials.

The group was treated to a warm Malaysian reception upon arrival at Subang Skypark Airport, complete with kompang and cultural perfomances. During the three day familiarization trip to Kuala Lumpur, the group will visit some key attractions such as the former Istana Negara, Dataran Merdeka, Royal Selangor, PETRONAS Twin Towers and KL Tower. A major highlight is the shopping spree at three designated shopping malls, i.e. Suria KLCC, Mid Valley Mega Mall and Sunway Pyramid. They will also be hosted to dinner and cultural performance at Saloma Theatre Restaurant by Tourism Malaysia tonight.

Hua Hin, with a population of 80,000, is about 200km south of Bangkok, and has a potential golfer and expatriate market that can be tapped for tourism purposes.

Last year, Malaysia received 1,442,048 tourists from Thailand, with many of them preferring to visit Kuala Lumpur, Genting Highlands, Penang and Putrajaya.

That 1,442,028 number is interesting. What percentage of that could we assume are visa-runners, I wonder. I would generally use KL myself, so would be counted in as a tourist perhaps 3 times. I think I would have expected the overall total, considering AirAsia's capacity, to be more than that. Do they consider only non-ASEAN passport to be tourists, perhaps?
