Instead of walking down the hill to Petchkasem, walk up the hill to the road beside the railway and catch the Surround City (white with redish bonnet) service going towards Sois 88 and 94 (no need to risk your life twice by having to cross Petchkasem twice either).

I failed miserably on the Maegep to Makro route. I've been unable to find a bus today, so they either start late, or are not running today. I will update further when I find out more.
The Hua Hin to Huay Mongkol route was more successful. This service runs hourly, from the Railway Station starting at 08:00. Last pick up at Wat Huay Mongkol is at 17:00. An example of cost is Railway Station to Hua Hin Floating Market is 20 Baht. Railway Station to Wat Huay Mongkol is 40 Baht. These prices compare very favourably to the last time we went to Wat Huay Mongkol by taxi, when it cost us 800 Baht.
I just wonder if the Floating Market @Huay Mongkol already opened? (This is the 3rd one floating market). And how the weather in Hua Hin? Does it rain?

Those orange ones are few and far between. And I suspect they don't have a timetable like the Surround City route. It's a shame really, I was really pleased when they first showed up months ago. Hopefully they're building a fleet, but if what they have now is the whole thing then it seems to me to be a waste of time and money. Who's going to wait an hour for something that might not show up?

No idea whether the Floating Market is open - I've mentioned it because that is a listed destination - the question really needs to be on a different thread.
Likewise, we have a weather thread. However, I've not seen any rain in Hua Hin since January, although I was in hospital for a week.

When i took the photo, there were actually 2 of them parked at Makro.
I was sat in a restaurant last Saturday and saw at least 4 go by (don't know if it was the same one ). I will keep an open, and ask the question when i can find one.
I've at last found a couple of Orange Sangtheaws parked up (at the bottom of my soi, believe it or not), so I can now fill in the missing gaps.
Maegep to Makro route - starts at 0600 and runs until 2000. Peak time service is every 15 minutes, and every 30 minutes at other times. Cost for the entire journey is 30 Baht, but the driver will break the journey down into 10 Baht segments for lesser distance.
I think I've spotted another Orange Sangtheaw service, but couldn't make out the route. Slightly different shaped buses. Does anybody know of this service please?

I'm getting confused with which new songthaew lines go where and when. The one you suggest on the railway road toward Sois 88 and 94 -- does it go up one of those sois to P'Road and then past Market Village? Does it go up Soi 88 or Soi 94?

And, re: other posts -- what/where is "Maegep"?
Maegep, I've been told, is the old name for the Soi 94 area. That's certainly where the Orange buses terminate at their Southern end.
The bus I'm suggesting you catch is the White with Red/Orange bonneted Surround City Service travelling South. You would go to the Soi 88 Rail Crossing, between the 2 7-11s. You would stay on that road until you got to Soi 94. The bus then travels down Soi 94 and turns left onto Petchkasem going towards Market Village.
Hope that helps. If not, just jump on and invest 10 Baht. You might be pleasntly surprised where it goes.
Thanks for the info. I plan to go to MV later this week, and rather than walking (about 12 minutes), I might loiter along the railway road and see how long it takes (for the sawngthaew to arrive and how long the ride is.) For B10, what the heck.
A burst water hose motivated me to visit HomePro yesterday afternoon. I walked down Soi 80 to the railway road and to a shaded spot to wait all of three minutes. Not only was that a record minimum wait for a sawngtaew for me, it was empty and remained so all the way until MV. That route opens up some new areas to explore.
For the return I was intending to wait for *two* of the white/red/orange ones to stop at MV in order to time the interval, but was distracted by a Chinese tourist asking me information for directions to various places. I had to google a few things on my phone, and totally lost concentration on the passing vehicles. When a white/red/orange one finally did come, I hopped on and we left with 12 passengers, adding as we went. By the Grand Night Market we had *19* people crammed in there.
On the ride to MV, I was thinking (as the sole passenger) that this business won't last long. But the full vehicle from MV heading into town seems to give me some hope.

You definitely should, because there are a lot of good eating places at reasonable prices. There seems to be somewhere new opening on an almost daily basis at the moment.
