Thailand fuel/pump prices
Re: Pump prices
Aarrggh!. Filled up with benzine 95 at 47.45 baht/ liter this morning. It's only going up from the looks of it. Last tankful was Shell V-Power, confirmed by the pump attendant that it was Gasohol (otherwise known by the rest of the world as E10 ethanol/petrol blend), something I will put in my car only when nothing else is available.
Ethanol has only 2/3 the energy of petrol so more needs to be used to get the same performance. That is why although it is still cheaper to fill up with gasohol, my mileage suffers and performance is slightly down. The resultant heavier foot only makes the mileage suffer more. Thank goodness there are now more places selling pure benzine 95 upcountry.
I may complain about the price but its still cheaper in the long run.

It is 6 months since the last mention of Petrol at Shell in a post a few back.
Is there and servo supplying straight PETROL i.e. no ethanol additive in Hua Hin now.

Re: Pump prices
Yes, a couple of the Prototol stations on the north end of town and the Esso near Chomsin have "benzine" 95. 91 is no longer available in the country. My SUV used to cost 1400 baht to fill up when it was running on fumes and now if I use pure gasoline it costs over 2k baht.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: Pump prices
Thanks Mate, you are a champion.
I do tours so the car sits for periods and I worry about some of the problems ethanol produce. Because of low Klm I don't worry too much on the cost.

Re: Pump prices
Sorry, I know nothing about petrol types. Are you talking about a specific kind of 91? Because all the pumps I've been to have had 91.hhfarang wrote:Yes, a couple of the Prototol stations on the north end of town and the Esso near Chomsin have "benzine" 95. 91 is no longer available in the country.
Re: Pump prices
Yes, he is asking about pure gasoline or what they call benzine here, not gasohol which contains various amounts of ethanol (alcohol) that separates in a tank left standing for a while and can damage the vehicle. Gasohol 91 is available everywhere, but pure gasoline is only available at a few stations and only in a very expensive 95 octane rating.Sorry, I know nothing about petrol types. Fuel Prices
I just discovered that the Bangkok Post has a sub-section within their "Auto" section devoted to nothing but listing fuel prices when and if they change. Older articles are partially locked except for subscribers, but new articles about changes seem open to all. For your future reference.... http://www.bangkokpost.com/auto/fuel

Correct, although the old (gasoline) 91 octane is still obtainable if you really must have it. I've seen a few places still selling it, and I've also seen a few coin operated pumps where you can get it.hhfarang wrote:Yes, he is asking about pure gasoline or what they call benzine here, not gasohol which contains various amounts of ethanol (alcohol) that separates in a tank left standing for a while and can damage the vehicle. The 95 octane version is about 3 baht more than the 91 gasohol as far as I can remember, so not that much more expensive. Just as a matter of interest, I've only been using gasohol in my bike for more than two years now and I've not had any problems because of it.

Re: Thailand fuel/pump prices
2 years later, but anyway
Well I use my bike pretty much every day anyway, so I'm assuming it's not an issue using the green 91? But if I was to leave the bike unused for any period of time, I'd be best of using 95 in the build-up to leaving it?

Gasoline prices
I just filled up with gas and calculated the price at 17.6 baht per liter for regular 89 octane gasoline. It's getting cheaper here every week and is now at a level not seen in about 12 years.
Are you seeing these lower prices in Thailand?

Re: Gasoline prices
are they still using gallons in theUS. Strange that they cling to the old British measurements while the UK has moved to metric.

And the US Gallon being a different volume.........oakdale160 wrote:are they still using gallons in theUS. Strange that they cling to the old British measurements while the UK has moved to metric.
To put pricing in perspective, I'm working in Saudi at the moment - 91 is priced at 0.45 Riyal per L, 95 at 0.60 per L. That equates to 4.3 Baht and 5.8 Baht respectively (I'm told diesel is cheaper still, but haven't seen pricing).. Wouldn't mind having that price at the pump in the UK!!

The below was effective this past Thursday. They're dropping about weekly now. My chart shows Baht/USD at 36.2491 as of close Friday. Pete
Pump prices per litre in Bangkok and nearby provinces on Thursday will be: Petrol 95 - 31.06 baht; gasohol 95 - 24.10 baht; gasohol 91 - 23.68 baht; gasohol E20 21.74 baht; gasohol E85 - 18.99 baht; and diesel 21.69 baht.

Re: Gasoline prices
I have about 150 gas stations as clients (or rather my Son does since my retirement!!) and they are all making record profits. Prices of crude dropping, and pump prices also dropping, but not quite to the same scale

Re: Thailand fuel/pump prices
Diesel should go below 20 Baht next round of cuts. That's something I haven't seen in a long, long time. Although, I can remember it at 8.xx in 1993. Pete
