ADSL installation

Post by Guess »

I have TT & T's 512/256 ADSL connection. They supplied me with a modem (Aztech) and a CDROM with installation software. The is one parameter that I can not get any information on. It is the encapsulation method.

Does anybody have any knowledge of this and if so which is the preferred method.

Firstly I'd ditch the modem and get a router, preferably a D-Link one. The modem still has to physically connect to the line whereas a router is permanently connected and more stable. All you do is plug in via your LAN card, put your details into the router interface and away you go, no software required.

Should be no need to fiddle with any encapsualtion settings, what are your options on your system?

Have you tried wifi. I pick up a decent signal from the sunshine internet cafe 3kms away. It costs me 500 baht a month but it usually stays connected for about 3 months!

Broadband is available in Hua Hin, but maybe only in the central part?
I do have broadband, but the speed sucks.

Broadband is a loose term for what we have here.

KD, have a read through some of the ADSL threads in this section for more details on what is available in Hua Hin ... and what to avoid.

Not really - its half way between dial up and broadband! (Depends on who's dictating what constitutes broadband I suppose).
