The Mall plans new spending blitz
The Mall Group, the country's second-largest shopping complex chain, will extend its retail empire in the next decade by adding four or five retail projects worth a combined 30 billion baht.
Changes in city zoning driven by infrastructure growth will create market opportunity for the group.
Vice-chairwoman Supaluck Umpujh expects the number of retail projects under The Mall Group to increase by half, reaching 15 projects in 2020.
The objective is to develop one branch every two years compared with the past, when a branch was developed every three years.
Ms Supaluck revealed that five new projects are to be located on Sukhumvit Road and in Bang Na, Ramkamhaeng and Hua Hin. Another location is under consideration.
Each project will cost 4-5 billion baht and will create 1,000 jobs.
The Emquartier on Sukhumvit Road opposite The Emporium is among the new developments under the roadmap and will open by late 2014. The Bang Na project will begin construction next year.
"Our investment will be carried out step by step. We will be cautious and selective with investments to ensure sustainable growth," said Ms Supaluck.
The company is set to introduce the Blu{aac}port Hua Hin Resort Mall on Oct 20.
The project is being developed by Hua Hin Assets Co Ltd, a joint venture of The Mall Group and Prayoonwitt Co.
Prayoonwitt chairwoman Jaraspim Liptapanlop is the mother of Suvat Liptapanlop, former deputy prime minister.
Each partner holds a 50% stake in the 4-billion-baht Blu{aac}port project, located opposite the InterContinental Hua Hin Resort.
Bluport will offer international retail shops, dining and entertainment plus a 200-room five-star hotel.
"I got this plot of land by accident from Khun Jaraspim. More than that, I remember I used to run around this plot when I was a child," said Ms Supaluck.
She praised Hua Hin as one of the best resort destinations in the world, citing its royal heritage and pristine beaches.
Receiving 5 million visitors a year, the intimate town offers a classy yet relaxed atmosphere, said Ms Supaluck.
It offers a wide array of attractions and facilities including world-class golf courses, spas and luxury resorts.
Moreover, more than 1.5 million people live in Hua Hin and its provincial areas.
The Mall Group expects 48 billion baht in revenue this year, surging to 80 billion by 2020.

But only 85,000 live in Hua Hin so the rest must be in provincial areas.
The first BKK post article quotes:-
"Hua Hin had 2 million tourist arrivals last year and nearby Phetchaburi province had 4 million."
The second article quotes:-
"Receiving 5 million visitors a year, the intimate town offers a classy yet relaxed atmosphere"
So each article is flavoured with a good helping of Bull*&$t

GEARING UP FOR THE BLUPORT
Hua Hin has long been one of Thailand's most popular holiday seaside destinations. The small beach city in Prachuab Khiri Khan has grown rapidly over the past 25 years and now plays host to as many as five million visitors a year. But something is missing: a department store, according to the owners of The Mall Group.
The leading retail group decided to set matters rights by introducing its Bt4 billion project the "Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall", which it is building in partnership with construction company Prayoonwitt and the InterContinental Resort Hua Hin.
At the project's contract signing ceremony held recently at the InterContinental, Supaluck Umpujh, vice president of The Mall Group, revealed that the new mall would be built on a 25-rai plot in the heart of Hua Hin opposite the InterContinental.
"Residents shouldn't be alarmed," Supaluck said. "The Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall has been designed to blend in with the heritage and charm of this well-
preserved dream destination architecturally and culturally. This shopping centre aims to complete Hua Hin."
The shopping centre will offer lifestyle, fashion and luxury products along with technology gadgets and also be home to hip restaurants, a gourmet market, and entertainment venues including cinemas and the "Splash Play Port" water park. It will also include a new five-star hotel under the InterContinental Hotel chain to be developed by the Proud Group.
"Jaraspim Liptapanlop, the president of Prayoonwitt, is the mother of my good friend, Suwat Liptapanlop, veteran politician and former deputy prime minister," she explained. "The Mall Department Store at Bang Khae and Nakhon Ratchasima are doing incredibly and one of the reasons is that the Liptapanlops introduced me to such terrific locations. When I see Suwat's daughter, Proudpud, (an Oxford graduate and chairman of Proud Resort Hua Hin), who will manage this project with me, she
reminds me of myself when my father pushed me into this profession at the age of 23. So I hope to train her, the best way I can," said a smiling Supaluck.
Proudpud added that she was pleased to have been given the opportunity at this stage of her career path, and as the third generation of Liptapanlop family, she had every confidence in the success of the project.
The event was attended by a number of high profile executives and future tenants of Bluport, among them Dr Vichit Suraphongchai, director and chairman of the executive committee of Siam Commercial Bank, Chartsiri Sophonpanich, president of Bangkok Bank, Suphachai Chearavanont, president of True Corporation, Paiboon Damrongchaitham, president of GMM Grammy, Dr Boonkiat Chokwattana, president of ICC International plc, Ampornpim Vajarabhaya, managing director of ELCA ltd, Guillaume Sauzin, managing director of Chanel Thailand, Olivier Dubos of Christian Dior, Somchai Songwattana of Flynow, Bhanu Inkawat of Greyhound, Catherine Maleenont and Achara Burarak,
The shopping centre is scheduled for completion in 2015.

Blu Port
Last time I was in Hua Hin the Blu Port site had been cleared and the hoardings were up just wondering is there any more to see. Any info going around town about what's going to be in there and will it compete against Market Village.

I'm with you on this Kendo..there's a great big space there behind the hoardings..but work there is progressing really slow..still same-same hoardings, but not a great deal happening behind..?? Looks like M.V. will be 'top dog' for a while yet.
Re: Hua Hin Bluport Mall in the pipelines
I peered through the entrance gate and it looked like piling work being done.
Only tenants that I know of are SCB and Kasikorn, both have already signed leases.

Re: Hua Hin Bluport Mall in the pipelines
IMHO I've seen more activity in there over the last 2 months than I'd seen in the previous 2 years.

Re: Hua Hin Bluport Mall in the pipelines
As pointed out in the OP nearly 2 years ago - can't wait to see the traffic jams. What's been done in the last 2 years by way of serious road planning?

Ha ha ha, 'road planning'??!! Surely there is no such thing here?
Having said that, Phetkasem road now has no white lines after the new 'quality' finish making it three lanes in parts. I guess if it was intentional that could count as 'road planning'.
Re: Hua Hin Bluport Mall in the pipelines
^^ no one use the lanes anyway.
Re: Hua Hin Bluport Mall in the pipelines
Rubbish... I see people using them frequently, often using more than one at the same time, in factbsdk1960 wrote:^^ no one use the lanes anyway.
