Oldest bar in hua hin
Got chatting to an old friend the other night about how many times the local bars change and have refurbs.
Then I tried to remember the bars that were here in 1998 that have not really changed.
U turn was here but down towards the Hilton in the last soi on the left, it then moved to what was a sort of garden bar.
The only one I could think of was the Celtic Bar which in 98 was the shamorock bar, it changed to Celtic when the joint owner Tony a Chelsea supporter from Croatia changed allegiance to Celtic.
So are there any others that have stood the test of time?

And perhaps those old timers can tell us who the oldest bar girls are. There is no pension for that kind of work so they keep whoring on. Very admirable.

King Bar and Toro Bar have been there a good number of years - my first visit to HH was in 2002 and I'm sure they were both there then.

What about Berny's Bar? That seems to have been around for ever.

Berny had a guest house on Binthabath in the mid 90's when I started visiting Hua Hin regularly. What about the two bars at the Hilton end of Binthabaht on the left as you walk towards Hilton?

As TTM stated..Celtic was Shamrock Bar, U-Turn bar was down that side-St where Nat bar is on the corner..(Fresh Inn bought the plot to extend so U-Turn moved into Binta onto the site of Tulip Bar).
My Mrs says Starfish Bar & Nice & Easy bar were already on the go down Binta when she got her bar.
(Ying at Nice & Easy is the longest running sole-owner I think)..

Can't say I remember ying in the earlier days but perhaps she bought the bar later.
Tulip bar was the one I was trying to remember where u turn relocated, was a strange place with a garden theme.
Bernies was around at that time so could be a contender for the oldest bar.
Oakdale.
I can't remember asking about the pension rights of girls that work in the bars,
As for the whores remark, I don't know why you would make that remark on the question of oldest bars!.

I believe the first bar opened in the Bintabaht was where Da's bar is just now, on the corner opposite Pink Panther (which used to be Rose Bar). King bar was the Universal Joint in the old days, and Berny must be the longest surviving bar owner. His first bar was where Toto Toro is now. As for the longest serving bar girl, there must be a few contenders!

Not sure about this, but how's about Kiwi Corner?
Started by Kiwi Duncan heaven knows when but certainly before my time. I've a feeling that he was here blazing a trail even before Bernie's Bar and The Universal Joynt.
It was somewhere down Nebkeharbs. Went there with some long time expats 16 years or so ago and it was just a shop. Duncan had moved on a long time ago to his pie business but there was a Sunday lunchtime piss up to remember the place.
Also, an English bloke had a bar opposite the Hilton. Called Mike but I can't remember the name of the bar . Again, he'd been in town quite a few years years before I arrived.
Bamboo Grove will remember all this!!

Surely the old Hurricane Pub deserves a mention here - Guitar Thep cranking out those rock tunes on the axe and getting trashed!

Re: Oldest bar in hua hin
My vote goes to the bar in the old Railway Hotel (now the Grand Centara, or something like that). I was down from Bangkok one weekend with a pal in the early 70s, and the Railway bartender decided to close the bar at 9pm (we were the only customers). So we staggered out into the night in search of somewhere we could get a drink. We finally managed to get a couple of beers in a house of ill repute, which is where Thai men went to socialise in those days. There were no bars as we understand the term today.

I was really trying to think of bars that had not really changed and we're still current.
There are loads of bars in what we used to call soi hotpot but I doubt any of them are that old.
I would think it must be bernies if it's still going.

Re: Oldest bar in hua hin
Wasn't Soi Hotpot the old nickname for Soi 80, because of the restaurant on the corner with the same name?
