Thought that I'd seen the last of the beach oil but not so.
Yesterday, walking from Centara to Chiva Som and back, I picked up a small amount on my feet. I've done the same walk this morning and have got even more. It's nothing to write home about but there are areas where the oil is seeping back up to the top again. I can't be sure exactly where the problem is as I didn't notice anything until I got home.

I think this headline is inapproprate for the amount of oil now present. I run/walk from Int-Cot hotel to K T and back about 4 timesa week. Some days ZERO tar on my feet about once a week enough that I have to use some spirit to get them clean.

its all relative. When I was in BKK I used to runwalk in Lupini Park, breathing the exhaust filled air of Bkk and trying to dodge the doggie poo, so compared to that the beach is a joy. It was remarkable how with only minimal man -made clearance the beach took care of itself. On the other hand keep up the tirade, I love the solitude on my afternoon run.

I can see why you do not have any one to run with and why you stand by your little lonesome why you wash the oil from your feet!

Comparing air quality in BKK to polluted beaches in HH and you call that "relative"? These beaches have NOT taken care of themselves as a whole pot load of that oil which came ashore is still under the surface of the sand and will continue to show itself. Given time the oil will be gone but the gulf is shallow and the waves, currents, and surf moment are not very great so it's going to take a while.

I can tell you don't really know much about this stuff so I'm assigning you some academic work in the area of coastal and oceanographic engineering design, pollution prevention and clean-up, as well as beach and coastal protection, which will give you something else to do in "solitude".

Cheers!

yes, it is filthy. yesterday swathes of the beach from the Chiva Som southwards was black. I arrived home with discoloured feet. The sea too was green. Algae is also growing rapidly in pools close to boundary walls.

A few weeks ago it was fine. Was playing there with my son and we had no oil on our feet.

The oil's gone, but now the sea's green !

After just returning from eight enjoyable days in Hua Hin – which involved a 3 hour walk on the beach each day in the area between the Hilton & Khao Takiab, I can honestly say the oil problem reported earlier on this forum has gone.

This is based on the official, “dots of oil on the bottom of your feet” test carried out by members of this forum. Not a dot on any day.

Although the oil spillage was certainly a man made issue, I was very surprised on the amount of plankton on the surface of the sea at the moment. When waves turned, the sea was actually vivid green !.
I’d be interested to know whether this is seasonal and how often it occurs – I’ve never seen this in any of my previous 6 visits.

Went for my weekly run on HH beach yesterday evening and had to scrub my feet when I got home.

On the beach with the dogs tonight there were a lot of black patches. Checked the bottoms of our shoes when we got back, and it is definitely oil again.

I think it has been churned up by the recent rough weather. Hopefully just a minor glitch, but be careful. There were still people swimming in it, so it wasn't bothering them.

I was at the beach South of Hua Hin today and didn't see any oil but some jellyfish.

Is there any foreign residents who swim regularly in the sea outside Hua Hin beach? I think swims slightly longer distances like 1-3 km and can recommend periods of the year where it is relatively free of both jellyfish and oil spills?
Thanks you,

We were on the Soi 75 to Marakesh this evening - where were you?

Tonight's walk was quite surreal i.e. as we entered the beach there must have been 3 dozen lotus flowers at 10 feet intervals along the waterline. These were replaced by fish heads at similar intervals until we got to Silom. The fish heads were driving me crazy because I was having visions of them being poisoned to get rid of a few beach dogs. My dogs were well attracted by this bait, and I had a hell of a job keeping them away

There were about a dozen jelly fish on our walk.

If it is "back" it is because it never went away. I warned of this on several posts on this forum and others. There is some real science to environmental clean up and there was not a drop of it given to this problem.

But I do not want you to believe me. PLEASE - take a shovel out to the beach and dig down at least 12 inches or so. And not in just one place. Did several. Maybe even deeper. Guess what you are going to find.

Cheers!
