Locations that serve a "good" Amercian / English breakfast.
Re: Locations that serve a "good" Amercian / English breakfast.
There's has never been a man or woman who was in the US military who didn't eat SOS at least once. If done right it's quite good, especially for breakfast or after a night of heavy drinking! Pete

Some interesting combinations and some downright cholesterol soaked, artery clogging ones!!prcscct wrote:Here's an example of a typical "truck stop" menu. Cross country American truckers know how to eat! Pete

Just a slight contradiction on the menu: "Restaurant Open Friday and Saturday 24 hours Sunday thru Thursday 5am till 10pm" and then "Breakfast Served 24 Hours a Day Every Day"

At least you can get breakfast at a decent time, unlike HH, where the general assumption seems to be that everyone gets up at 10 a.m.!
This is the way

Oasis and Morning Bread (my previous favourite before they changed their suppliers) both open for breakfast at breakfast time. I'm sure many other places do as well.

Dried beef (example on google) ) and a simple white sauce made with flour, milk, spices. Some people like hamburger instead of the dried beef. PeteBig Boy wrote:It looks interesting - what are the ingredients?

Thanks Pete - it doesn't sound so bad. I'd certainly give it a go - probably the beefburger would be my preference over the dried beef. Dried beef can be a bit chewy for this lazy eater.

Just for reference, the cooking softens it up nicely and it's quite tasty, not dissimilar to corned beef. Here's a simple recipe, easy to make here with ingredients available. Here's a whole page of dried beef photos. I bet a brand or two can be found at Macro or Villa. Pete

Mrs BB can do the dried beef, so not a problem. I might give it a go one day when I'm feeling adventurous/creative.

Ever been south of the Mason-Dixon line? Pork sausage is the basis of the gravy. Dried beef is an ingredient of a gravy served on toast that in the US military was called 'Sh*t on a shingle'.prcscct wrote:Dried beef (example on google) ) and a simple white sauce made with flour, milk, spices. Reminds me of my time in the Navy.
Devilled kidneys on toast ----- Sh*t on a raft
Steak and kidney puddings ----- baby's heads
Bacon and egg ------ pig and chuckleberries
and many more which don't come to mind just now.
