PHETCHABURI — A 64-year-old Swedish man was found shot dead at his Cha-am home on Monday morning.
The man, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, was found lying on his back in the kitchen of the house in tambon Rai Mai Pattana of Cha-am district, Pol Lt Natcharee Siriwarin, an investigator at Cha-am police station, said.
Pol Lt Natcharee said the Swede, a former police dog handler, was shot in the stomach and right elbow. He had been dead for about 24 hours. The house is part of Kennel Scandinavia - a property providing facilities for dogs, cats and birds, and also has a dog training centre.
Police found a spent cartridge from a shotgun behind the house and a bullet hole in the driver’s door of a Toyota Hilux.
Police initially assumed the murder was generated by a personal conflict, because the deceased man had often quarrelled with local youths when he was drunk.
He also had a conflict with his ex-Thai wife, and a court case in which he was accused of killing a cow owned by a local family in a car accident, Pol Col Pakin said.

Very sad, quite a case of potential killers there!

RIP Swedish man.
And this is why I am always the nicest person you would ever want to meet in Thailand with everybody I meet.
Just the other night in Hua Hin when the conversation turned to insulting Americans, I just got up and left.
No Clint Eastwood, no Jack Bauer. All that stuff is in storage in the USA.
I learned that lesson on the third day of my very first trip to Thailand. My super sweet and happy Thai girlfriend took me by the arm and looked at me with deadly earnest and said:
"It is not important, don't do anything because they will kill you."

Tend to agree JW - unfortunately life is cheap in the LOS.....
Sad to say have seen many get themselves in trouble on numerous visits there for both work and pleasure.

Shocking incident but does happen way too often. James West is spot on - never get into it with the Thais because killing over an argument seems to be acceptable. The murder at the market last week, the British family badly beaten at Songkran and now this, plus many more over the years.
Re: Swede found shot dead in Cha-am home
Very sad indeed, and ironically, he was shot exactly one year to the day after my lifelong friend was shot to death in his kitchen at his home in Hat Yai
RIP

Re: Swede found shot dead in Cha-am home
I think it's extremely rare for a foreigner to be killed over an argument with a Thai.
The Swedish guy was more than likely involved in some sort of shady business.

Police demand swift action in Swede's murder
The National Police Bureau has called for quick results in the death of the Swedish man in Cha-Am on Monday.
The former policeman and owner of a local kennels, Lars Donald Qvarfordt was shot in an execution style killing at his house, reported Thairath.
Spokesman Krissana Patanacharoen said that the commissioner of police wants to see those responsible arrested quickly as it represents an important case.
The victim had lived in Thailand quite some time which he said added to the need for a speedy resolution to the case.
So far no motive has been discovered and despite the fact that those close to the victim had been interviewed there was no arrest.
Witnesses further afield in the area are still to be fully interviewed but this is expected to be concluded in a couple of days.

Re: Swede found shot dead in Cha-am home
It's amazing/disturbing how trigger-happy and quick to resort to lethal force the locals are over percieved loss-of-face. There is a constant stream of stories these days where someone is killed because of a minor disagreement, small debt or a "...he insulted me" lame-ass excuse etc.
I wonder where all the famous 'mai bpen rai' went sometimes.

A sad indictment of Thailand's justice system. Reported without any irony whatsoever.Nereus wrote:Pratheep Sangsiri, 42, a resident of tambon Rai Mai Pattana in Cha-am district of this southern province, was apprehended on a road in his community on murder charges on Saturday. That's because there is no irony to be reported. It' s how things are done - SOP - etc.caller wrote:A sad indictment of Thailand's justice system.
