Red Arrows coming to Hua Hin *CANCELLED*
Re: Red Arrows coming to Hua Hin
I sent an email to the Bangkok Post yesterday. The following has just been received:
quote: Hi Kevin,
I regret I have been unable to find out one way or another. Nobody seems to know. I would guess it would be called off unless it could be portrayed as a special tribute to the King.
Sorry I haven't been of any help.
Regards,
Roger

So if Roger cannot find out I do not know who can.

The following does not look very promising:

3 Nov 2016
Red Arrows pilot first to land UK military jet in China
David Montenegro, aka Red 1, squadron leader of RAF Aerobatic Team, is thrilled to perform at the Zhuhai Airshow and amazed how many Red Arrows fans there are in China
It’s been a logistical challenge, too, and for me in the cockpit, it’s the challenge of dealing with huge weather systems. We don’t have the fuel, like an airliner, to re-route, so we got stuck in Ahmedabad, in India, for three days, waiting for the northerly portion of a monsoon to retreat.
Our next show is in Hyderabad, in India, and then we have some official engagements in the Middle East before returning home to RAF Scampton [in eastern England].

When I checked the RAF site yesterday, it showed TBC. Today those 3 letters are no longer there.

I wouldn't say it is still there, because it wasn't there at 2:18, when I posted. I agree that it's back again

Yes, that's where I look. Either I need to go to Specsavers, or it disappeared for a short while.
After Nereus' message, I was expecting to see cancelled, and was quite surprised to see the TBC gone.

If the squadron leader does not know where he is going next, it may be time to ground him.

Re: Red Arrows coming to Hua Hin
One can only assume it is cancelled, bringing 12 hi tech planes and support staff can't be done at the drop of a hat.
Shame if it is cancelled.
But then again Australia Vs Thailand soccer is on, with lo limits on chanting or colors anymore

Still no definite news about this. The Zhuhai Air Show finished yesterday, so they are due to move. Weather has to be a major consideration as well. The following website claims that they were in U-Tapao on the way out around the 14th October. As pointed out, the aircraft have limited range, so it is possible they may stage through U-Tapao again on the way home, without there being any airshow.

And then there is the following, which as usual, has been widely advertised:
http://www.european-airshow.com/?p=3772
Thailand to host Air Race 1
Thailand will become the first country in the history of the Asia Pacific region to hold a pylon air race, featuring multiple airplanes racing directly against each other. The Sports Authority of Thailand will host the race at the U-Tapao Naval Air Base on 19-20 November 2016. Air Race 1 is the international level of the sport known as formula one air racing. It is pure air racing in which eight airplanes race simultaneously at speeds of 450kph vying to cross the finish line first after eight laps.
Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, The Minister of Tourism of Thailand, said: “Thailand is very happy to have won a bid to host this unique event. Thailand prides itself on being on being a leader on the cutting edge of the tourism industry and by inviting the Air Race 1 – the most elite level of air race – Thailand is solidifying its position as a top destination in Asia. We look forward to a long collaboration with Air Race 1 and we welcome the pilots, the teams and the thousands of fans that enjoy this sport.”

Re: Red Arrows coming to Hua Hin
Somebody on a UK based forum I use who is interested in the red devils got a message from the RA press office to say the display had been cancelled.
Talk is cheap
Re: Red Arrows coming to Hua Hin
I wrote to the RAF earlier this morning, asking if there was any update. I hope to have a response this evening, allowing for time differences.
