Is High Season in Hua Hin?
Is High Season in Hua Hin?
What's your thoughts, is high season here know?
Played Golf today at a good course and very quiet, local taxi drivers complaining things are quiet and lots of bars saying they are not as busy as last year?

Personally, I wouldn't class this as high season yet. Yes, a few snow birds have returned, but I think you have to wait another 3 weeks for the season to get under way big time.
Back in my early days of visiting Thailand, the last 2 weeks of November and the first week of December used to be so slow that you could pick up flights and accommodation from the UK for £199.

The hotels start hiking their prices on October 31, claiming the start of "high season". I reckon a lot of them will be empty this year.

^^ have to agree. Bangkok is also very slow to start with visitors from Europe/US/Australia. Still quite a lot of Chinese around but during the evenings you don't see them.

I think the real high season starts after Christmas. A lot of people want to have Christmas at home with extended family and then do their tropical vacation to escape the worst part of winter that comes in January and February.
When we were there it began to ramp up slowly starting in mid October, peak in January/February, then ramp down slowly until Songkran.

Reading an article on another Thai forum, there was a story about Cambodia getting some
good tourist numbers. Maybe their new visa policy has something to do with the increase.
I am probably arriving near the start of a busier time at the start of January. I have a feeling
that Europeans will still be part of the scene, but if is possible that their economy is still
fragile. The USA is still recovering from their long election process and I wonder how many
will travel to get over the hang over. Canada is starting a bit of recovery in the east, but
Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario, may have less travelers as Carbon taxes will make things
more expensive, Thanks you short sighted politicians! I have a few friends who are presently in
Thailand at Chang Mai, Pattaya, and Hua Hin and Phuket. All of them are saying that it
is not very busy yet.
Geezer

Americans and Canadians are not a big part of the tourist mix. Scandinavians. Germans, Dutch are more important. I recent years it was Russians who have come and gone and now for sheer numbers--Chinese, but as discussed they come on very packaged package trips with little 'extra' spending.
There are 2 groups of tourists who resist all the political stuff--the Golf and Sex tourists, but HH sees only a small number of these groups.

^ In my experience knowing quite a few of them, that is 1 group: Golf and Sex tourists
