Why do expats settle for horrible relationships with Thai girls who hate them?
Re: Why do expats settle for horrible relationships with Thai girls who hate them?
After 14 years of marriage and two amazing children I've never been happier. My wife adores me (or at least pretends too LOL) and she is an excellent mother. Marrying her was like winning the lottery if she seen me as a walking ATM so be it I won in the end.

The OP must be a sad person who has a very slanted outlook on life. He would probably fail in a relationship with any woman (or man if females scare him so much), regardless of Nationality. I feel quite sad for him, but don't understand why he feels he needs to tar everybody else with his brush.

If you have a relationship with a Thai woman and you want it to be full-time then she has to give up whatever job she is doing to be with you (many jobs here for Thais are 60-80 hours per week, 7 days per week and very few holidays. Many relationships are with Thai women from Isaan who still have children, other relatives, a house, rice fields, etc. there. They need money for all this. If they can't work then the farang must provide this money. There is no real Welfare system in Thailand. It is a farang's obligation to provide this for a partner. The extent that this is provided has of course to be discussed and decided together.

Not quite off subject, just in reply to Steve's post. For those of us who struggle with "THai bueaucracy, shopping, bills etc' and also with medical visits
I think there is a business opportunity fora Thai lady with good Engkish skills. Accompaning Single farang men to these appointments.
Whatever she would charge would tiny fraction of the cost of maintaining a wife.

There is at least one Thai lady that does just that. We've seen her at several places around town helping with different tasks. Rarely is she she with the same Farang (male & female).

Marriages are work no matter where you live. Some last 7 years like my first one.
and some last 15 to 20 years or more. I think that the different in age may make some
difference but it is the compatibility, and interests and a few other factors that keep
the marriage going strong, or falling apart. My first wife was 5 years younger, and
my present wife is 9 years younger. So far so good, but who knows what the
future brings
Geezer

Personally I don't have any problems with these things but some foreigners really do find it beyond them to deal with these issues. That's why so many have to use these visa agencies to do simple reports and applications. Once on top of things there are few problems.Name Taken wrote:What would you name the business? There are actually many businesses around that do it all for a very small fee.

You will see that in many countries, women like shopping and men, generally, don't...Name Taken wrote:Big Boy wrote:Everytime I go shopping you will see a grumpy frumpy Farang being followed by a Thai lady, but we've been happily married for 27 years, so looks mean nothing.

Am I correct in assuming you are the one in a bad relationship as your final sentence says it all "some couples look really happy together and I can't help being a bit jealous of that"sidthesloth wrote:For an extreme example, see this post

But in real life I see it so often. Sad looking old guy walking down the street or around the food court with a grumpy frumpy thai lady following 5 metres behind. How can these people be happy together.
Sometimes you overhear them trying uselessly to communicate with each other thru broken tinglish. It breaks the heart. These ladies don't even try to hide their obvious disdain for their benefactor.
On the other hand, some couples look really happy together and I can't help being a bit jealous of that.
