Buying Fresh Fish
Buying Fresh Fish
Hello,
Is there a place to buy fresh fish like the morning market in Cha am, in Hua Hin?
Not like the night market where prices are a bit Farang but where the locals buy their fish?

Re: Buying Fresh Fish
If you head down to Khao Takiab which is on the southern side of Hua hin you will find the a fresh seafood market which is located along the road that leads to Wat Khaotakiab temple.

Takieb is expensive. The day market is better value but should get there in the morning.

Dinosaur market normally starts setting up about 1.30pm and is well under way by 2.30. Most days it's only partially populated (maybe 50%) by stall holders. However it's a full market on Sunday and Wednesday and parking behind the market often starts getting difficult as early as 3pm. For fish and seafood, Sunday and Wednesday offer more choice.

How fresh do you want it. Makro in PKK, so assume Makro Pranburi and HH have also.

I but fish at the Morning market; Makro is more expensive. Example: you can buy a sea bass or red snapper, they'll scale and gut it for you, for 100 baht up. Big bag of fresh scallops is 80 baht. Fresh crab is cheap, too. One lady sells steamed and chilled crab claws for 150/360 baht... delicious!

Where's the morning market? I'm never up that early but I'm willing to give it a go for some fresh scollops!

Re: Buying Fresh Fish
That's the main fresh market in central Hua Hin - Chatchai market. Lots of fresh sea food. Certainly open by 6am, but still open in the afternoon.
There's also a new market at Khao Noi, near Wat Ittisukhato. Opens at 5am, continues until 10pm. I have no idea whether it has fresh fish early on, but I haven't seen any in the afternoons. It also has quite a large food court, but not sure what time that opens. It was certainly busy the other evening. Mostly Thai food though. Bigger than the one at Big C, but still nowhere near the size of the one at Soi 88.
