Re: GBP vs THB
The headlines on the finance pages--Pound soars on news of election---- |43b > 44b, thats nice for Brits but ist hat soaring??
Re: GBP vs THB
It's a knee-jerk reaction and will be short lived. 43 at the bank. Not 'soaring'.
Re: GBP vs THB
Apparently, the markets are seeing this as a signal for a longer and softer Brexit and it might be the start of a recovery of the pound. Obviously the election has to achieve the majority that May is looking for before there is any real change.

Re: GBP vs THB
The fate of the pound probably over the next few weeks is going to depend on which parties are doing well in opinion polls, and what their stance on Brexit is going to be.
If the Conservitives look like winning a landslide, and they talk about hard Brexit and leaving the free market, then it'll drop. If the Lib Dems and Labour look like making strong enough a comeback to threaten a hung-parliament then the pound will strengthen on the hope of a soft Brexit.
Then, of course, we'll have the election, all the opinion polls will most probably be proven wrong, and the pound will likely head into the opposite direction to which it had previously been going!

For day to day tracking, I use the chart on the right of this page. It may not give the correct rate, but the trends are correct. I see it's dropped again today.

FX rules eased, baht rises
http://www.bangkokpost.com/business/new ... baht-rises
The central bank said on Monday it would relax foreign exchange rules, including allowing more Thais to directly invest abroad, as policymakers try to hold down the baht's strength.
The central bank will allow investors with assets of at least 50 million baht ($1.47 million) to directly invest in securities abroad, it said in a statement.
Commercial banks will also be allowed to lend baht to non-residents for investment in Thailand and the Greater Mekong sub-region, it said.
The baht appreciated further to 33.98 against the dollar, a near 23-month high, after the announcement, from 34.05 in early trade.

)ver a year ago, I sat with a bunch of retired British guys who had all been here for several years and asked the question--how low would the baht have to go to make you move back to the UK. There was general agreement on 45. The baht is below that and unlikely to rise very much, but none of them have made any move to leave. I am sure that there is a number, but we have not reached it.

The straw that will break the camels back will be when your UK pension no longer meets the requirements of 65k Baht per month to allow you to stay. I know one gent 72 years old with a home here who will not meet the requirement come February 2018 when he next has to renew. He has been trying to sell his home for years so he can get cash in the bank, all to no avail. He no longer has a home or family in the UK.
He has no idea what he is going to do.
