That came as a surprise to me so I checked on older photos and this one from 2 years back seems to confirm that.

But I thought it had been established that the problem was they had become permanent structures, whereas originally, they weren't. And whilst that has clearly been accepted as being in order, for some reason, it no longer is.

To be honest, it seems to me that someone above the local Mayor and municipality has been taking a look at what has been happening in Hua Hin and putting pressure on to ring the changes. All these issues - the piers, what we are discussing here, are all recent initiatives.

I wouldn't disagree, but the initiative seems to be ending at the 'demolition' stage. No logic or no plan beyond that.

Yes, I agree.

And another thing that struck me yesterday was in soi57. Now, it could just be their location, or simply parking issues, there being no pavement as such, but there are an awful lot of closed businesses and empty premises down there.

BB makes a good point. Demolition is usually performed in order that some new use can be made of the space or as a beautification project. What are the plans for the beach rd and Poon Suk? --- But then again, perhaps our expectations are based on farang logical thinking. We HAVE to stop that.

Some years ago, all the buildings were pulled down along the railway line. The plan published at the time was to widen the road making it a relief road around the town. Not too long after, the present buildings were erected and it was business as usual. Ideas spring forth but usually get binned before fruition. Let's see what happens this time.

"get binned" implies a descision being made not to proceed---- here it is that there is an inability to implement descisions and plans

If what we see is the finished article, one wonders what this vandalism has achieved. They have not restored the area to it's previous state (I can remember that), they've restored it to an eyesore.

I cant believe that its going to stay as it is. Even the restaurants on the other side of the road who must be happy with less competition would hate that.
How is this affecting business in the bar area, operating next to what looks like a bomb site?

Exactly as on beach road, close shops, demolish some, then leave it an eyesore for years to come.

I agree. That area looks a mess now. The odd shop is still open and the piers all are. Makes it look like a small UK towns high street, during the height of the recession! Awful,

But do the Bangkok Thai Condoistas eat on Poon Sok? Probably not, so why fix it up?

That's pretty much what's going on, they would quite happily replace the whole city with shopping mall.

OK here's a bit of Thai thinking. Extend the temple grounds, thus increasing capacity in the grounds for err.. well, you know. Then have more chance of imposing restrictions of Binta nightlife due to close proximity ?
