Those that do close will be out of respect. King's birthday does not normally prohibit alcohol sales.

I'm visiting first week of April. Will I have to stock up the bar fridge or are there no alcohol free days then?

The only thing early April is the 6th, Chakri Day, which I think doesn't close the bars. Bars should be open in all their glory all of April given Songkran starting mid-month. Pete

If the festival is any good...no alcohol required. Unfortunately they're often not that good.

Think you will find bars will be closed on the 8th of July and restaurants if open will not sell booze.

For anyone who isn't aware of this already then you might want to factor this into your plans that July 28th is to be declared a national holiday from this Friday onwards as it is the king's birthday.

So, don't be surprised if everything is closed at short notice this Friday.

So you're suggesting the new king's birthday will be different to the ones for His Late Majesty?

Maybe...but said nothing definitive.

Who knows?

Will not be commenting further as my previous post was just a heads up for Friday and will not be drawn into a conversation on this matter.
