Don't worry - it may be providing some much needed housing for Thais who have lived in Hua Hin all their lives, but find it difficult to buy/rent a house at the hugely inflated prices. We have people in 'low-cost' housing living next door. They're honest, hard-working souls. You can even enrich their lives by getting them to cut the grass or do some odd jobs around the place. They don't bite.

A quite amazing couple of posts.

Firstly, the question about Thais moving "near" to a housing development and the affect on house prices. Well, can you imagine, the pesky Thais actually daring to live near farang, in their own country as well, just the thought of it........

Then in response, we hear it helps "enrich" Thai lives by having them cut your lawn, it might earn them a few baht, but enriching their lives??? Although I'm sure for the second poster, that its just an unfortunate use of words, just wish they hadn't said, "don't worry"!

Seems like apartheid is alive and well in downtown Hua Hin.

Yes, there will always be some form of apartheid whenever you have two different nationalities trying to live, or, in some form, co-exist together. I work for a Thai organisation, and there is a wall of racism between my colleagues and I. This is totally created by my Thai colleagues, and not by me. It is, however, something I have to live with, and, even, accept. So the apartheid thing is generated elsewhere, and not by me.

I used the word 'enrich' in the literal sense. I literally enrich the locals with the extra money that they can earn, which, of course, they couldn't earn if I wasn't there. Perhaps I shouldn't have said 'enrich their lives', although the difference is a hair-splitting one...

Enjoy life in London!

Well maybe in hindsight I over-reacted to the above two posters - apologies!

But I think property prices might be affected by other things than proximity to Thais - did I really say that? - thats covered in a multitude of places on this and other forums.

I have a Thai wife and step-son so its not an issue for me.

Life in London is a little warmer than what is was a few days ago when Ooy and I took a walk in a snow covered Richmond Park, that was a first for her.

I deliberately left this thread alone after falangs ludicrous stupid and uninformed post about the poor and their m/c and mobile phones which are all on credit and all countrys have poor just leave them to rot
add to that the i am offering them enrichment come and cut my grass and the annoyance that they wont because the expectation that they should be gratefull is in the head in the first place left me boiling mad

it is those attitudes that are the root cause of thai resentment
exactly what i have been trying to warn about and exactely why i started this thread in the first place :cuss: :cuss:
