Unable to access Hotmail
I am unable to get the hotmail sign in page up. After a while it comes up saying gateway time out unable to find server. It happened twice last week for one day and then two days, then suddenly it came back. It has happened twice now this week but has not come back this time. is there something on my computer that is causing this or is it my provider. I can get all other web sites.

A quick news update on this one. This issue is going on for the last 2 weeks and the main culprit is the main Internet gateway (used for all the ISPs) in Thailand is having diffulties.
It mainly affects the Ji-Net and Hi-Net package users. The techinicians said it will be fixed very soon, when I called them 2 weeks ago, but the problem is still not resolved.
Since Ji-Net and Hi-Net have oversold their ADSL packages, the current bandwith is not able to cope with their load and causing a timed-out or 504 Gateway error, in most of the cases even major sites like Google or Yahoo can't be reached, because the main DNS server can't locate (serve) their IP address.
A quick fix can be using a major public DNS provider. I hope this is simple enough explanation to your connection problem.

I have been on Hi-net for almost a year and whilst I don't use Hotmail, connection speeds to other international servers is generally shocking - avoid this one too.

If I have trouble getting my email I usually try - www.mail2pda.com this usually works for me. Not sure why. I dont use hotmail by the way.

Those who rely on email or have business interests really shouldn't be using Hotmail.
It costs virtually nothing to buy a domain and setup your own mail server.
All depends on how much you value your email really!

Hotmail versus Thailand
This is not a new problem and quite a while back now I and a couple of others contacted Hotmail to find out why the Hotmail accounts weren't working and yet all other email accounts were. At first they blamed our ISP and after many emails it was declared by Hotmail in an email to me that the Thai Internat Police have put red stop words in place which effectively block access to Hotmail. As far as I know they are still trying to work things out.

The technical explanation regarding the comms in and out of Thailand is spot on but if that were the only problem then Hotmail would suffer nom m ore than other email ISPs.
The fact is that recently we have all been having trouble with comms in Thailand and it is because the bandwidth is stretched to its limit. The problem has been compounded recently by some cable damage in the region caused by seismic activity.
As for Hotmail is concerned, Randy is right. I ditched it two years ago. Firstly it is provided by a company that is not in the Internet business and the commercial reasons for starting it up many years ago do not exist anymore.
Yahoo is still much better but I have had more connection problems in the last month than I had had in the previous year.
If you are going to make the move from Hotmail which I would strongly advise anybody then move to Googlemail (gmail).
Google is a dedicated ISP and gmail has been designed to be robust and lightweight.
Getting your own domain is also a good move. They are cheap and the longer you leave it the less domain names will available to you.
