Hi, new in town - does anyone know of a good plant nursery in Huahin? We would like to buy some mosquito-repelling plants such as lemongrass, basil etc. Also a handy compost maker is also on the list!

Hi, I don’t know the name of it but this one's good. Going north from town towards Cha Am, do a u-turn at Index (so you’re going back into Hua Hin direction) and pull in immediately after the Hafele showroom - you’ll be outside the garden centre', on your left. The Thai guy there is extremely knowledgeable and friendly, speaks perfect English (with an Aussie accent) and sells lots of different plants, including herbs, and pots, fertilizers etc. I’m sure he’ll be able to help you.

Yes, a really nice guy, and if he hasn't got what you want, he will usually offer to get it for you. You can also ask him about his other nursery which is more or less behind the one which has been mentioned here.
By the way, you can grow lemon grass from the lemon grass you buy at the markets here. Simple stick the side in the ground and give them water. I have always only used the bottom 2 inches or so and they start growing almost immediately.
If I were you, I would also consider planting your lemon grass in pots because if grows like crazy and can soon get out of control.
Basil is just as easy to grow from seed, and you will have tons of the stuff in no time at all. Look for the "Hoary Basil" seeds if you want a lovely scent in your garden and/or food. I think some people also call it lemon basil.

Depends where you live, there are many around.
1. Pala U Road on the right past the artist village, further on 2 more on the right and 1 on the left.
2. Going south on Phetkasem after Banyan golf club there are 2 on the left.
3. Going North on Phetkasem on the left opposite the military base is a huge place Vanason Plant shop

Hi all, went to see Kn Tor today and he basically said there are no plants that really prevent mosquitos.....even if he is wrong, I like his honesty. He could have sold us loads of plants that Google says are good for keeping the pesky things at bay.....but we bought different stuff anyway.
