Super Typhoon Yutu

Image from last night, and now it's headed in the general direction of the Philippines.

NOAA-20 captured the moment the eye of Super Typhoon Yutu passed directly over Tinian Island, one of three main islands of the Northern Mariana Islands and a U.S. commonwealth in the western Pacific. The violent storm pummeled the islands with sustained winds near 178 mph (286 km/h), making it one of the strongest on record to hit U.S. soil, and tying for the most powerful cyclone on Earth in 2018.

A storm earlier this month has removed an entire island.

An impressive storm indeed. Still heading directly west towards northern Luzon as of 1800 hours October 27..
