Book Hotels how far ahead?

Post by Kaiboom »

In late January / Early February (High Season?) how far ahead do I need to book a hotel? I'm not looking for something rather budget and not high end. I'm looking in both Hua Hin and Pattaya. I'd like to book late as possible, because I'm hoping to be able to change my plans based on if the ferry is running or not at that time.

If you listen to TAT, book now because Thailand will be bursting at the seams.

IMHO so long as you're not looking for a specific named hotel, most low to mid-range hotels will have vacancies i.e. no rush to book.

You will find a hotel just like Big Boy said, just mind the due to rate yielding (which most hotels practice), the rate will go up in conjunction with the occupancy.

Cheers,
B.

You may find in HH but Pattaya is substantially different so I would recommend booking early for Patts

Probably the only difficulty you may have in Hua Hin is if the visit coincides with a Bank Holiday, and the town is overrun with Bangkokians.

Very few hotels will be at full capacity this year. We just got some great deals booking the day before, granted January will be a little busier.

You haven’t said whether you will be going to HH first or Pats, but I would recommend booking your first location fairly soon, your second location can be booked when you’re more certain of when you will go and booking online even once you’re in Thailand shouldn’t be too difficult.

I usually book on Agoda, I have found that sorting hotels by their cancellation policy is best. I book hotels in Bangkok, Pattaya and Hua Hin for every trip to Thailand.

There are some hotels that let you cancel last minute which I prefer. The price might be a few dollars more each night but having booked rooms in the past that I wanted to cancel/change and lost money on I have become more wary of this. Agoda is usually very good with this especially if you use them allot. Just my advice.

Not really the high season. There's a lull around then until April and Easter being late next year.

The law of sod tends to ordain that the further ahead you book, the more likely something will crop up that forces you to change plans.

Most hotels have a pretty thin reservation book over one month down the line, unless there is a key event taking place that causes a scramble for rooms.

But hey, making that booking sets in motion the countdown to your trip - I usually book about six weeks ahead, but when there's been some uncertainty, I've sometimes booked less than a week away - and without issue..

For BKK and Patts you have to check for Chinese holidays esp CNY but that is not a problem in HH
