Golf GPS smartphone apps

Post by thecolonel »

As my GPS golf watch doesn't work in Asia, was just wondering if anyone has found a reliable & accurate free(!) GPS golf app for android smartphone use for the Hua Hin courses?

Does 18 birdies work there? I use Golfshot for recording scores afterwards, but once I tried the GPS function at Palm Hills & I found it to be very rough and ready. But I must say I hardly gave it a fair crack of the whip! Might need to try again.

Any other suggestions welcome though.....

Just my opinion---- estimating the length to the pin, elevation, wind etc is one of the arts of golf, electronics should not be involved. But then again, I never take a golf-cart and only carry 10 clubs.

You know what, ironically, I completely agree!

Haven't used my watch in UK for last 3 years, actually prefer to eyeball them. If they banned them I couldn't care less in fact I rather they did! I've played 5 winters in HH without one so why Im even asking God only knows! Image

I also carry 9 clubs in UK almost all of time, only use a powakaddy in a competition(13 clubs) and almost never use a cart anywhere. Too expensive and ruins the rhythm of the round

Second thoughts, forget i asked! Image

Well you do not play in Thailand because caddies are compulsory at any club I have played since 2006

I don't think he means 'carry' as in physically, but rather the no. of clubs in his bag.

But in any event I was under the impression(possibly mistakenly) that at SOME courses you could refuse a caddie (and carry your own bag/trolley) as long as you paid the caddie fee.....is that not right? Are you suggesting that regardless of the caddie fee you must be mandatorily escorted by a caddie?

Thanks

Caddies carry out other duties than carrying clubs eg Filling divot marks, tidy up bunker with rake after a shot etc, so I do not know about all clubs but some insist upon a caddy because of this. Also I do not recall ever seeing a golfer playing without a caddy after some 12 years in Thailand. BUT it will be interesting if others have seen this?
