Indian food ingredients
Indian food ingredients
On our first foray around the supermarkets in bluport and market village, there was a marked lack of international food ingredients, particularly Indian. My wife cooks a mean jalfrezy, rogan josh, Marsala, but we can’t track down any accompanying sauces for them. Does anyone know of a little deli where we can find these things?

So when you say 'ingredients', you mean a jar of Patak/Sharwood/etc. ready-made curry paste or sauce? HHHam&Bacon usually has a selection.
This is the way

I think I’ve seen jars in Villa Market, but to be honest if you have time results are much better and waaaaay cheaper if you make your own sauces, and I’ve found most of the basics in Makro for quite a few Indian, Bengali, Sri Lankan etc. dishes. (But still looking for fresh bay leaves, and I have a small curry-leaf plant in the garden as I can’t find fresh ones here. If anyone would like a cutting you’re welcome.)

Tesco at Market Village has a nice selection of the ready-made sauces, located in the isle near the spaghetti noodles and sauces.

The best selection of ingredients for Indian Food can be found at Makro. They are however Indian Indian and not British Indian.

The three most common spices in Indian curries are Coriander, Cumin and Turmeric - the amount used varies depending on the type, to which are added varying degrees of Chili, Garlic and Ginger. A base onion sauce is the starter to which all the other ingredients are added. There are a whole range of additional spices you can add depending on the specific recipe and your own preferences, but as HV has mentioned, most of them are available at Makro at reasonable prices - they also stock a ready made Tandori paste (not as good as Pataks IMO) and garlic and ginger pastes - I like my curries with coconut milk and/or natural yogurt.HarryVardon wrote: ↑Mon Feb 18, 2019 7:55 am The best selection of ingredients for Indian Food can be found at Makro.
