Re: correct pronounciation of hua hin
Not really, they're just saying that you can't accurately render the pronunciation of Thai word(s) using the English alphabet. For that matter, the same is true for almost any foreign language. Even those that use the same alphabet as English often have slightly different pronunciations of those letters.brokendown wrote:thanks for the replies.looks like everyone agrees to disagree.

Re: Correct pronounciation of Hua Hin
Perhaps that is what the poster was trying to communicate, and if they were addressing some of the Thai vowels that don't exist in English then I can understand that point. However, "Hua Hin" is a very simple Thai name to pronounce, for those that have learned to read and pronounce the Thai language. Those folks that persist in trying to pronounce "Hua" with any kind of a "w" sound really should take some Thai language classes if they want to correct their pronounciation bad habit. In addition to not having a "w" sound, both words are pronounced with a rising tone.

Seems like one of the easier Thai place names to pronounce.
Hooah Heen is what I hear (from Thais).

Re: Correct pronounciation of Hua Hin
You are correct. Quite annoying listening to Farangs calling it 'WaHin'.
Hua - 'head'
Hin - 'rock'
Hua - 'head'
Hin - 'rock'

The way the pronounce it on the radio annoys the flock out of me...
Re: Correct pronounciation of Hua Hin
I actually called the radio station some time ago to point out that only ONE of his advertisers pronounce it properly. When I have Thais in the car they find it quite amusing.
Anyhow, the guy I spoke to said he was going to have an 'on-air' debate and would stand by the result.
