I have been using Firefox for years and they seem to have been able to stop ADBLOCK from working since last week. Firstly I like Firefox and would wish to continue with them so is there an alternative recommended other than Adblock.
I also cannot install it on IE for some reason. I have it on Chrome but have never been comfortable changing my main operating browser to them as I find it so different to use - stupid I know.

Firefox had a certification problem that disabled ALL add-ons/plug-ins for a while - if the headlines I read were correct.

Anyway, uBlock Origin is superior to AdBlock, IMHO.

Dynamic DNS (DDNS) on 3BB DSL modem

Post by mwbrown »

Something that used to work no longer does. Not sure what happened.

The settings inside my 3BB DSL modem show my IPV4 WAN address is 100.86.94.188. I have IPV6 turned off.

My DDNS service's utility app and whatismyipaddress.com both show that my WAN address is 171.5.240.186.

When I use the 100. address, my traffic routing setup correctly gets through the 3BB modem, through my router and into my home web server for my web site and a PHP app.

When I use the 171. address, I get no response to anything. It won't even ping.

I've hardcoded the 100. address in my DDNS service's table so things work now, but that's only until my DSL router gets a new address someday, and it totally defeats the purpose of DDNS.

Anybody run into this before? What is 3BB doing with the magical 171 address?

Thanks.

Laptop / Webcam issues

Post by sefty »

I'm going round the bend trying to sync and pair these devices to Skype. Anyone know where I can go to fix this issue without wandering round market village asking all the stall holders.

For about a month now, about every hour I get a little pop up appear in the bottom right corner of my screen. Often from WOW Solutions, but as you can see from the image captured, not always.

It is annoying, rather than a problem. I click it, it starts to open a new tab, and I simply kill the tab,

First thought was Malware, but several scans later, nothing found, and it's still there. I've done several virus scans also, but can't find anything. It only happens on Chrome. I have re-instated my pop up blocker to no effect other than a host of applications asking me to switch it off.

I've looked for unusual program additions, but find nothing.

Has anybody else experienced this? Does anybody have any ideas on clearing it?

Looks like you've accepted notifications from this site at some time. Done it myself several times in error.
On the pop-up there is usually a 'settings' symbol at the top left of the image (opposite to the 'x'). Click that and you should get the option to block. And as if by magic, it's gone!

As you can see, there is nothing on the pop up. Your only option is to click it, which opens the new tab, which I then close again.

Oh! Sorry, BB, I thought you had just posted the image as the 'x' is often outside the actual image. Can't help I'm afraid as it's never happened to me.
It still might be worth checking your notifications in 'settings'. There's an option in 'advanced' to block pop-ups and redirects.

I've actually closed down a few 'not so used' extensions, and it hasn't happened since. So I won't do any more yet, until it happens again.

Bitdefender renewal

Post by usual suspect »

Can anyone out there help me decide which Bitdefender 'Total security' deal to choose..?
I have used BD for a coupla Yrs now, renwal is in 2 weeks, and I'm happy to continue with it...but..
Looking on ebay there's a mass of cheap options..really cheap, cheap enuf to make you instantly think 'nah'.
If I click 'renew' on my BD page on my lappy at the moment it directs me to their page offering another Yrs package at
999B..Is this the deal I should be taking to make sure I get a genuine subscription..?
Or where do others buy from..? Maybe buy off Lazada..? Or should I just go upstairs in MV..?

Thanks in advance for any sensible suggestions..US.

Never used Bitdefender so cant comment on its effectiveness. Additionally I wouldn't buy any security products off eBay - get them direct from the company that provides them.

I've been using Kaspersky for over a year now on the laptop without issue. This in conjunction with Malwarebytes and some common sense when browsing has kept the machine clean.

Kaspersky even has a free version which not many people know about.

Dragging this one up again. The frequency has significantly reduced, but it's still happening.

Every pop-up, although different has the "Google Chrome * www.smmsport.com" after the Thai message.

Still looking for ways to stop it completely please.

Check your Google extensions - you'll have something nasty in there - or you've enabled an ad alert from one of the Thai footie sites.

Does it happen on Firefox?
