This has got me thinking, there should be a section on the site that covers beaches out of town. There are a few secret little spots that I know of:

Haad Sai Noi - Khao Tao
Getting there: A popular little spot around 20 minutes drive south of HH. Turn left off the highway at the sign for Khao Tao, over the railway and turn right before the lake, follow it round and keep to the left at the fork (otherwise you'll end up in the army camp).
The beach: A small sheltered bay with two restaurants serving good food, plenty of seating but does get busy at weekends. Swimming is good as it gets deep quick however jellyfish have been spotted here.

Khao Kalok - Pranburi
Getting there: A bit tricky this one, drive south to Pranburi, turn left towards Paknampran and take the second major turning on the right (not the Sam Roi Yod one). Follow this road for about 10km and make a right at the t-junction, follow the road round and follow the signs. Takes about 40 minutes.
The beach: One of my favourite spots, a long beach with a concentration of good restaurants at the end, also has a large rock outcrop with a hole through it that shelters part of the beach (there are always Thais hiding under it).

Phu Noi - Sam Roi Yod
Getting there: As before drive to Pranburi, left at the lights and right at the first main turnoff. Follow the road straight for about 15km and turn left when you reach the big temple at Phu Noi. This road leads down to the beach. A 45 minute drive.
The beasch Not the best beach in the area IMO but there are plenty of guesthouses and restaurants along the beach road. There are better beaches further into the National Park.

Ao Manao - Prachuab
Getting there: Takes an hour, drive to Prachuab, turn off towards the city and follow the English signs to Ao Manao, takes you through the city, over a runway and into an army base.
The beach When you see the colour of the water here you'll think you're on the Andaman. Very popular with Thais and very few westerners here, the beach is great, ideal for kids (although does get jellys in the season) and loads of food options. One of my favourite Sunday afternoon spots!

There is only one beach in the Hua Hin area worth going to!
Haad Sai Noi beach Khoa Toa.
Drive south out of town for about 15 mins and take a left down soi 101. The sign is a bit tricky to see as a tree is in full bloom in front of it.
Then follow the signs. You can check if you are on the right beach when you get there by looking left, there should be two mermaids sitting on the rocks (their quite big)
I have never seen any jelly fish here unlike other beaches. The food is really good and cheap.
The water gets deep quite quickly and some times there are really big waves...Whooooo Hooooo!
It is the only beach I go to now. I am there usually 3/4 times a week.
Im the one on the bicycle!

Ao Manao is great, spent a few days there last trip, Jan 11 and 12 other than my 'friend' and I there were 2 other people on the whole beach! JVery nice for swimming, no jellyfish then. Haadthong Hotel right on the beach in Pratuap is very nice, good pool, and 800 baht for nice seaview aircon room. Will have a lot more time (Jan - May 2006) to explore all those other nice looking beaches!! Thanks for the pics and directions!
?? Now,.... who to take with me to those beaches...?? :D
