Last Overland - Landrover journey through Thailand

Post by Nereus »

The following is underway and should be passing through Thailand today or tomorrow. If anybody has any up to date information please post it. Despite subscribing to their Website, sending an email and asking the Bangkok Land Rover agent, I cannot find out where and when they will be passing through.

Probably doesn't help much, but they passed through Cameron Highlands, Malaysia yesterday and are looking to cross into Thailand (Hat Yai) on the 29th of August. ETA in BKK is 2nd/3rd of September.

Following https://www.instagram.com/thelastoverland/ and the team members on Instagram is more informative than the online blog.

Cheers,
B.

Thanks very much Blacky, at least I have not missed them yet. Yes, I realise social media reigns supreme, but I just refuse point blank to subscribe to any of it!

Thanks very much. I have just asked my contact at the Land Rover dealers in Bangkok AGAIN if he knows any more.

Really pisses me off with the dealers. They are only interested in selling new cars, and then robbing customers 1,650 Baht / hour to have some kid that can only do what his test book tells him, "service" them. Certainly hope that they don't let them anywhere near the old Series 1 car! My contact is a Farang and knows better, but he is tolerated, rather than consulted!

I have just received a belated email from the organisers:

"Thanks for your email. Apologies I'm waiting for a ferry in Penang and must be brief - there will be no dealership event in Bangkok I'm static l'm afraid.

For all public events, there will be announcements on our Facebook page, hope that helps!"

Historic Singapore–London Overland Trip Will Pass Through Thailand

http://www.khaosodenglish.com/life/2019 ... -thailand/

BANGKOK — At the beginning of September, a historic car expedition roving its way from Singapore to London will make a pitstop in the Thai capital.

The rest of it we already know. And thanks to Old Crutch / Roger at Bangkok Post for this update.

What a fantastic vehicle; Series 1 1955 had a very sweet 2 litre petrol engine. I did a trip from UK to Morocco in one of those years ago - it was good. Only problem really was fuel starvation when the petrol pump mounted on the bulkhead overheated during the heat of the day. I don't know if this one is modified?

Some more info:
There will be a Last Overland event from 10am to 2pm on Monday, Sept. 2 at the RSC Lounge Bar at the Royal Sports Club in Bangkok on Henri Dunant Road, right in the downtown Siam area.

However, I've got word that Tim Slessor, who was in the original expedition, is hospitalized and not on this expedition.

Finally made it as a film star! Alex is a very friendly outgoing host, just a shame that old Tim could not be there.
