Increased crime and thefts due to tourist slump

Post by PeteC »

I think we need to talk about this, or at least make people aware of the strong possibility.

There are many thousands of people involved in the tourist industry here who suddenly find themselves with no income, or much less income, due do this virus. They still have to feed their families and pay their bills.

Some small percentage of those people may resort to theft and we need to be aware, especially those who live in resort areas. It would not be the first time thefts and breaking & entering increased due to an economic slump here.

We all should be practicing common sense regardless of these current problems, such as don't wear and flash expensive jewelry and gold chains when out and about. Don't carry a huge wad of cash. Have the wife use a cross chest shoulder strap when carrying her purse.

Make sure doors at your home have secure locks (dead bolt), and window security grating is in good shape and installed correctly. Many other things as well.

Just practice a hightened degree of alertness concerning security.
