วัดถ้ำแจง - Wat Tam Jaeng

I’ve always been fascinated with Khao Yai, the limestone "mountain" just north of Cha Am town. I have a good view of it from my condo and I’ve hiked the trails in Khao Nang Phanthurat National Park several times. But I’ve never found another way up he mountain.

The other day I was in my way home from cycling north of Cha Am when I saw a small dirt road I hadn’t noticed before. It seemed to go to a small Wat just at the base of the mountain. I rode in, parked my bike and walked around, disturbing many wild boars, monkeys and monitor lizards in the process.

About 100 meters south I came upon an overgrown and crumbling masonry stairway that went straight up, very steeply at times. At the top was a cave; hence the name of the Wat. It was full of interesting stuff. Just at the cave entrance we’re the remains of a trail that seemed to head for a ridge above the cave. At that point I was out of water and too tired to continue.

Excuse my ignorance, but which of the peaks there are you specifically referring to?

It’s the limestone hunk that has Khao Nang Phanthurat National Park at the northeast corner:
