Springfield Golf Club, proof of marriage

Post by Houdi »

A friend of mine has been a member of Springfield for something like 12 years.

He has a family membership with his Thai wife. They play every week and now, suddenly, Springfield are demanding proof of his marriage. Even though their joint membership application (and money) was accepted 12 years ago.

Under any circumstances they would be considered married in the eyes of the law.

I wonder if anybody else is facing similar action from Springfield.

Before taking legal action he wonders if many more people are being targeted. He certainly know of at least one couple who are facing the same situation.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Best regards

I’m confused - you say under any circumstances they would be considered married in the eyes of the law, but the rest of it suggests that they’re not married?

But if they were married, why wouldn’t they simply provide a copy of their marriage certificate - problem over?

Oh I agree entirely, was just commenting on the "aren't married '' part of your post. The original post is a little confusing

And another thing why are they being asked in the first place? Is it because they receive preferential rates as a married couple versus co-habiting?

I was suggesting they weren’t married because if they were, then the solution seems simple - provide a copy of the marriage certificate!! As to the rest I neither know nor care, but maybe somebody else knows?

A synopsis of Springfield rules and regulations.
Ordinary Members are those with Life, 30 and 15 years membership and can appoint Associate
Members. An Associate Member refers to the spouse legally married to an Ordinary Member and/or any Ordinary Member’s legitimate child or children under the age of 21 years. Five year members cannot appoint Associate Members.
I hope this helps.
