Hi folks - just a good old fashioned gripe - cos I'm sure we can think of dozens of answers.
Anyway
Me & Mrs. T have had a joint A/C in Bangkok Bank for many years with no problems.
I've just started a medium long term Monday to Friday job in Bangkok to boost the retirement funds, and my new employers have opened a new account for me in Siam Commercial Bank - seemingly no problem.
Until lunchtime today.
I went to Siam Commercial in order to set up a couple of Standing Orders.
One to the landlord for the monthly rent of a small apartment here in BKK wher I stay Mon to Fri. He banks with Bank of Ayudha(Sic)
One to Mrs. T - i.e. our joint account in Bangkok Bank.
After queueing for 45 minutes, I was told that these could not be arranged as they were transfers to other Banking Companies, BUT - I can do this easily at the ATM - one time every month.
How F%^£"ing stupid can you get.
Needless to say my complaints were received with a polite smile which basically meant -'We've got your dosh each month - who gives a shit what YOU want to do with it'
Rant over - back to work
Chock dee all
P.S. Mrs.T and the crew are staffing the Fishing Lodge
Why are Thai Banks still in the dark ages?
Agree, SCB have got to be one of the worse, have you ever tried using their internet banking system?
Want to add another account - fill in paperwork and go to the bank.
Want to make a transfer - fill in paperwork and go to the bank.
Want to pay a bill - fill in paperwork and go to the bank.
Want to change your profile - fill in paperwork and go to the bank.
Want to check your balance - this service is currently unavailable.
Or in the bank itself:
Want a fixed deposit account - 2.2% max interest
Want a credit card - farang mai dai
Want to transfer overseas - farang mai dai
Want to get a loan for a car - farang mai dai
Want to get a mortgage - farang mai dai
You're better off leaving a stack of cash under the bed!

Terry, I know where you're coming from. I recently cancelled an account that I've had for almost twenty years because they still insisted on having me queue up at the bank. I couldn't even pay at the seven-eleven if I'd wanted to. Grrr.
Many banks are beginning to modernise, but it's still in the dinosaur stage.

I suppose the thing that is really pi55ing me off is the thought that I will have to stand in line at an ATM at the end of the month when everyone and his / her brother are doing the same.
Each person will use ALL their different cards - normally around 3 - to take out all the cash.
Each transaction takes around 5 minutes - whilst they re read the screen messages a dozen times..........
And I end up taking 1 1/2 hours to do what a computerised system could do in the blink of an eye
T.I.T.
I love the place - honest - but.................

Try Kasikorn Bank and on-line banking called K-Bank.
Open an account in Kasikorn Branch, fill in on-line banking form (all the standard documentation needed will apply) while there (otherwise big headache, faxes phone calls, visits to the branch again and again)
It should take 2 working days for them to set-up the initial on-line account , after that you just login to:
https://ebank.kasikornbank.com/kcyber/login.html
Add the recipient account details, payment amount and the payment interval (daily, weekly, or in specific day of the month).
After that as long as you have the funds in the bank, they will be paid on-line.
So far, I managed to pay my, landlord, UBC, Internet CAT, AIS, Lawyer and my Accountant on their own payment intervals.
Good luck.

Siam commercial bank
Hi Therry
Tried to open account for my company at SCB in the Market Village, duly equipped with all the paperwork you need, prepared by my lawyer. I was "welcomed" by the most unfriendly and nasty people I ever met in Hua Hin. They do not like customers. After 15 minutes I grabbed all my papers and left fuming. I had my lawyer prepare all the papers again and then I visited Krung Thai Bank which opened my company account without any problems. SCB will never see me again.
