I am unable to give you a comparison but I have stayed at Chan Chai. This was way back before the place was modernised. I believe they now have two or three different classes of room available. When I stayed there they provided clean, quiet and comfortable, basic accommodation.

It is, however, some 1 to 1.5 kilometres south of the town centre. It is a hop, skip and jump from the beach; and unless you are old, infirm, permanently pissed or just plain lazy, it a pleasant stroll along the beach to the down-town area.

Its called Chan Chay Bungalows if I remember correctly.

I stayed here last October and will be again in July.

Rooms are reasonably spacious with a huge balcony which is nice to chill before going out and on return although the views are not great, mine overlooked the shopping mall.

However, you can leave your room barefooted, walk down a small track and you are on the beach, perfect.

Maybe a 10 to 15 minute walk to town and plenty of taxis to take you home.

About 1,300 Baht per night per room incl breakfast.
