Clearly many people would comply, even if a sizeable minority wouldn’t - even now you still see people wearing masks, so that’s evidence of compliance.

Looking back, it’s easy to criticise many things that the Government insisted upon - much of that was a stab in the dark as much as based on scientific evidence, but without any recent history, they had no manual to follow.

At the end of the day, the early high death rates were managed and reduced by following certain rules but largely by mass vaccination - personally I’m not that unhappy about the restrictions placed upon me.

Long Lockdown has left Britain infantilised
The UK cannot recover if millions continue to feel they have no agency over the course of their lives
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/0 ... antilised/
It seemed to me that the lockdowns released something malign into our societies, some malfunction in the normal way we do things, which even now we instinctively shy away from. Of course Brexit had been hugely divisive, but it was still normal politics. Lockdown was different. The determination to forbid most forms of normal human contact, the detailed provisions regulating every aspect of human existence – they were all totally unprecedented. We had no experience in dealing with them. Individuals and families were thrown back on their own resources and each of us had to find a way to manage the situation.

I agree also. But just for the 'bleaters', the restrictions during this pandemic were no different from those during Spanish Flu over 100 years ago. It's nothing new. It was handled similarly before. Just get on with life as they did back in the day.
It was found that there are parallels between the two pandemics in terms of general unpreparedness, attitudes of the community and government, and various policy issues. All the measures implemented in 2020 were the same as those implemented in 1918–1919, with the same trend, uncertainty, early relaxing, and rapid reversals. Even from a scientific standpoint, all the elements were already known. All the issues such as social isolation, intra-family spread, personal protective equipment, medicine types (quinine, aspirin, anti-inflammatories, etc.), immunization requirements, and so on had already been addressed.
