House Bricks

Post by bigston »

Have looked at quite a few building supply places for house bricks
that are more like the real deal as far as bricks go
not the bog standard white things and those small skinny Mars Bar size
Real bricks.at least in size, thickness is not so much the requirement.
Suggestions as to who might be best to try..
Thanks.

You could ask the Easter bunny.

They don't make clay bricks here like you are used to. Most used here are Qcon or similar.

Otherwise, for small jobs some forming and poured concrete.

Unfortunately, Nereus is right. You cannot get what we consider a 'standard' brick here, and I do understand your inference to a Mars bar for what is available as it is not far from the truth. Nobody uses bricks any more given that there are more viable construction methods these days. Though my old 30+ year old house does have those bricks. If you want a visually pleasing facade, you will unfortunately have to succumb to the faux facade..

Out on one of the roads from the 3218 to Black Mountain, someone is in the process of building a long brick wall with iron railings on top around some place that's going to be a tourist attraction of some sort.
I've never paid that much attention of what they used but it looks like a traditional red brick wall now it's up.

Good point, I drive past it a lot, and a friend said a few days ago that it looks like an English wall. It is huge.

Looks like you need to pay a visit bigston - they could have just what you’re looking for (or can tell you where to get them).

Don't know about availability in HH, but they were readily available at Udon Thani, as I used as top layer, straddling a double cinder block wall, to support the window. Half exposed indoor & outdoor.

If such a big wall is in fact made from clay bricks, and not fake, then the cost is probably no object.
A truck load from Malaysia should not be a problem.

https://claybrickmalaysia.com/index.php ... malaysia-1

The Clayon clay brick range includes:

Facing Bricks (smooth-face, bark-face, rock-face, wire-cut)
Common Bricks (3 holes and 10 holes)
Solid (Full) Common Bricks
Double Common Bricks (3 holes)
M211 Bricks
Block Bricks (3 holes)
Brick Tiles (Thickness: 18mm)

The website shows the range and sizes.

I've tried to re-create the drive on StreetView, and I'm fairly sure the wall is on this piece of land on the left hand side. If it's not, its only a few hundred yards further on. Unfortunately Google StreetView is out of date, and the system throws a wobbler when you continue on that road.

Across the road is a massive solar powered estate.
