Sorry if mentioned before Dannie Boy but is that here in Thailand?Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 9:17 am I’ve mentioned this many times before, but I have an MG HS PHEV, and for most of my journeys, I can complete 100% in EV mode, such that the use of petrol equates to an equivalent of >300mpg. If you have a fast charger installed at your home, you can go from 10-100% in 3 hours (just over 6 if you use a standard socket) - the range has dropped from an initial 67 km to 65 km after 2 and a bit years.
As long as the MG continues fault free, I’ll keep it until hopefully EV’s and the infrastructure are cheaper/better than currently available.

Which is why I am in no rush to get an EV. It is no surprise that massive advances will be made and they need time to prove themselves and the cost come down. I am happy to let those wanting to lead the fashion parade pay the initial (high) price. If I was in the market a PHEV as mentioned is the only type I would consider.
Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
PHEV cars make a lot more sense than EVs. My view, however, is that self-charging petrol hybrids offer much better value for money, Toyota being the leader in the field (the Prius was introduced in 1997).Gregjam wrote: ↑Sun Apr 23, 2023 8:08 am Which is why I am in no rush to get an EV. Guess it depends on age & life expectancy. Yes, newer & better on the way ... BUT ... you going to be around to utilize, maybe get some of that ROI or at least use the battery warranty up (8 yrs).Gregjam wrote: ↑Sun Apr 23, 2023 8:08 am Which is why I am in no rush to get an EV. I personally didn't see anything around the corner worth waiting for, while dumping baht into my ICE for petrol & maintenance. Like what I had, ZS, so just got the EV version when upgraded enough to meet my needs. MG with good track record and dealer network. Others are just now arriving, and any newer & better a few years further away from that.
Gov't incentives expire 2025, unless extended. Some models have 6 months wait till delivery, ours was 5 months, 1 month earlier than expected.
Lots of announcements being made, but not a lot actually here.

I drive past the BYD garage just before you get to Cha Am and they have quite a few models on display - not stopped yet but they look as though the display cars outside are for sale!!

Food for thought by a lover of Electric Vehicles but a hater of the hassles they continue to present due to lack of infrastructure.

Good thing we, some live in TH, as not a problem, yet, except weekends if you don't reserve or plan well.brianks wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 9:47 am Food for thought by a lover of Electric Vehicles but a hater of the hassles they continue to present due to lack of infrastructure.

All the negative post about EVs, all seem to be not in TH ... just thought I'd point that out, to avoid the wasted bandwidth

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
The problem KhunLA though, is that you’re sold on EV’s and therefore only promote positive things. Ok in some respects Thailand doesn’t have some of the drawbacks you get in say Western Europe, but even here, some people live in Condos, some people live in rented accommodation - both of which are not particularly conducive to having access to cheap solar charging.
Public charging in Thailand is getting better, but still not great - I have no idea how reliable they are here - you read many reports that in Europe, many of the chargers are out of order.
Availability of cars is still something of an issue - ok there are some relatively cheap (mainly Chinese derived) models available which are ok, but the imports are considerably more expensive.
I won’t repeat all of the other things that have been mentioned numerous times, but it’s definitely not a case that EV’s are suitable for everyone!!

Tesla overtakes Audi in global car sales, on track to beat BMW and Mercedes
https://thedriven.io/2023/04/22/tesla-o ... -mercedes/
"With Tesla’s staggering global production growth over the last four years set to continue this year, the EV maker on track to hit between 1.8 and 2 million cars in 2023. That’s up from 1.3 million in 2022.
That rate of production growth would see Tesla also race past BMW and Mercedes global sales numbers as early as Q4 this year."

As far as I can tell, you can (at least to a fairly reasonable extent). MG alone boasts of having at least one recharging station every 150 km throughout the country. And that's without counting all the other locations such as shopping malls and service stations that have them.

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
I have, not too far yet, but the CS (Charging Station) infrastructure is more than enough. Maybe some planning on the borders, Umphang for instance.
We've only gone PKK-Kanchanaburii-Krung Thep-Chumphon so far, as waiting for rainy / non smog season to kick in, then we'll be O&A (Out & About) quite a bit. Have Nong Bua Lamphu planned (family thing), along w/Chiang Mai & Rai.
Then our usual southern loop, E to W, with exception of bottom 3 Muzzy provinces. Don't anticipate any issues charging.
We've used MGs, PTT/EVstation, PEA/VOLTA & eVolt CSs so far.
If you can't find a charging station, you're not looking:
