Re: TV series worth watching/downloading

Has anyone got any recommendations for TV series from a while back? Or even some to be rewatched?

I recently watched......

THE KILLING(2011)

This is the US version of this crime thriller drama, as its based on a Danish series called Forbrylsden or something similar

It was one of the best dramas I've seen for a while. Bit of a slow burner but we'll worth it in the end. Bit gory and uncomfortable viewing at times. And a bit dated(no smartphones! )

9/10 Highly recommended

Ok..3 recent ones I've enjoyed...Strike (bumbling investigator, ex army amputee) with a lady assisstant..set in London.
Rogue Heroes..story/drama set in the Middle East depicting the start/formation of the S.A.S.
White lotus (series 2)..Set in a posh hotel in Scicily, the episodes are awash with mild naughtiness. (Series 3 is being filmed now..somewhere in Thailand). Also I've downloaded ALL 7 series of Elementary..Sherlock Holmes dramas set in New York with Lucy Lui as Dr Watson.. :P

It's not up to Cumberbatch standards, but it's worth trying. Having said that, I can't remember how much of it I watched - certainly not 7 series!

Elementary - Jonny Lee Millar (Sick boy in Trainspotting) is Sherlock and Lucy Lui is Dr Watson, set in New York. I found it to be a very entertaining take on Sherlock Holmes.

If anybody else watched it, I’d be interested on your views?
I have just started watching Wolf and I am hooked now.
1st episode was a bit slow, but it gets better.
2 more episodes tonight I think

About to start The Winter King which has just started with season 1. It is based on the fantastic Arthurian "Warlord Chronicles" trilogy by Bernard Cornwell.

For Walking Dead fans, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has just started which seems to be based on The Last of Us

Foundation season 2 is also good viewing for sci-fi fans.

Looking forward to Tom Hardy in The Bikeriders due in December.

Just thoroughly enjoyed the first couple of episodes, though I might wait 6 weeks and download the full series as I prefer to binge watch these days.

And thanks for the Foundation reminder. :thumb:

I recently watched the first 2 series of The Tower, an ITV police drama. Short series, with a total of 7 episodes, with one thread running throughout, which hasn't yet ended. Well worth a look IMO. I ended up downloading from eztv as I got fed up with ITVX, which works fine (Ofor me) with live programmes, but is a bloody nightmare with its box sets - keeps cutting out during the ads.

There's a 3rd series in the pipeline.

Not seen this mentioned on here yet, but apologies if I've missed it.

Loads to catch up on, but came across this one by accident really:-

"The Last of Us" - Yes, it's another "End of Civilization" outings, but thus far has been excellent IMHO. Set in (an alternate (?)) 2023, 20 years after an outbreak/attack on the human race by a seemingly "natural" organism. Stars Pedro "The Mandalorian" Pascal.

I'm up to S01 E04 - Season 2 has just started streaming, long may it continue!!

Justified: City Primeval

I've just downloaded this 8-part season (from eztv or Pirate Bay, can't remember which). Haven't watched any yet, but I'm sure it will be a good fix for Justified fans.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14263564/
Having left the hollers of Kentucky 15 years ago, Raylan Givens now lives in Miami, a walking anachronism balancing his life as a U.S. Marshal and part-time father of a 15-year-old girl. His hair is grayer, his hat is dirtier, and the road in front of him is suddenly a lot shorter than the road behind. A chance encounter on a desolate Florida highway sends him to Detroit. There he crosses paths with Clement Mansell, aka The Oklahoma Wildman, a violent, sociopathic desperado who's already slipped through the fingers of Detroit's finest once and aims to do so again. Mansell's attorney, formidable Motor City native Carolyn Wilder, has every intention of representing her client, even as she finds herself caught between cop and criminal, with her own game afoot as well. These three characters set out on a collision course in classic Elmore Leonard fashion, to see who makes it out of the City Primeval alive.

I've had a little downloading blitz recently and have just watched the first episode of Mr Mercedes. There are 3 seasons, starting in 2018. It stars the splendidly grumpy Irishman Brendan Gleeson as an unhappily retired detective and based on ep 1 it's well worth a look.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Mercedes_(TV_series)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4354880/
Retired detective Bill Hodges is still haunted by the unsolved case of "Mr. Mercedes", who claimed 16 lives when he drove a stolen Mercedes through a line of job-seekers at a local job fair. Meanwhile, brilliant young psychopath Brady Hartsfield emerges to focus his attention on Hodges. What begins as an online cat-and-mouse game soon has deadly real-life consequences as an increasingly desperate Hartsfield becomes bent on leaving his mark on the world.

It is good! Initially I read it was going to be a one off but now they are talking a series perhaps.
