Is anyone surprised? It was widely reported that some kind of deal along these lines must have already been negotiated, because otherwise he would almost certainly not have come back.

So a year in a luxury hospital being waited on hand and foot. I'm sure he'll manage that okay.

As a billionaire I would still rather be holed up in California, Paris, Milan (definitely not London) than a year in ANY hospital then released into Thailand. There's even more to this than meets the eye I reckon

I read that he could be paroled after 4 months. I would expect him in his home by New Year.

Since this has gone so well, I would also expect to see Yingluck arrive back around that same time.

Truly, truly vile.
It would be interesting to see a list of government officials along with their associated criminal offences.

1) The newly 'elected' PM (the one no one voted for) is facing scrutiny for tax evasion.
2) Thaksin's lawyer was in prison for 18 months for handing out bags of cash.
3) The party secretary general of the PPRP is a convicted heroin smuggler, and was accused of murder.
4) A member of the Bumjaithai party (Chada Thaiseth) advocated that people should become vigilante and shoot each other if they were heard insulting the monarchy.

I can't think of anymore offhand, perhaps someone else has more?
Very very sad.
What an awful state this country is in....all at the behest of a handful of evil people.

Thailand's Department of Corrections has a very helpful guide to a royal pardon and the process to get one.

Yes that chart is all well and good but it's been decided, so that's it for reasons well known that we can't talk about or debate on here.

Multiple petitions and multiple demonstrations have disappeared since the pardon was issued and no more will be heard from those groups.
