Dog food from 'Pet Land' on Petchkasem still charge the same price as it was a couple of years ago.

I've been to that place long ago. Without a doubt they are a volume dealer which helps keep prices down. You would be hard pressed to find a place of that size with their selection of pet products anywhere in the country, Bangkok included.

I bought some catfood there last week and a box of 12 sachets had gone up by 5bt, so there was a small increase but not excessive.
I have noticed that tinned dog food in some of the smaller shops and convenience stores has gone up significantly, probably about 30%.

Is buying biscuits instead of tin food cheaper?
I use Pet Land for my 2 dogs ( Bull terrier and Jack Russell ) and tin food is more expensive.
We do add a little 1tbs fresh salmon mince from Makro - cost about Bht110 per kilo - but overall cost still cheaper.

Biscuits bht1300 for 10 kilos .

Yes, we feed the dogs mainly biscuit but just add a couple of spoons of tinned food to keep them interested or leftovers from the kitchen.

I think I've mentioned this before, so apologies if I'm repeating myself. When living in China, we always had concerns with regards to the quality/"authenticity" of the dog foods available - our now dear departed Bob therefore had home prepared food. As a rule, this consisted of rice, a little veg (boiled chopped carrots and/or cabbage) and some meat (normally chicken). Everything readily available and cheaper than the so-called specialised dog food. Bob lived to the ripe old age of 19, so his diet certainly did him no harm! My mother has taken on the diet for her own pooch and now swears by it.

How would the cost compare in HH/Thailand?

Hua HIn has Royal Canine biscuits plus other high grade etc etc so no problem because the vitamins are good.

Our BT is 12yrs and very fit and young looking and behaving - so more fortunate living here than China

Definitely a lot cheaper in Thailand, BUT, and it's a big but. We have fed our dogs that same diet (minus the rice because it contains a lot of sugar). One of our dogs is diabetic, hence the diet - Royal Canine diabetic food is very expensive, and our dogs do not really like it. More wasted than eaten. The BUT is that all of our dogs (2 at the moment) have an allergy to chicken, and the vet has told us stop to feeding it to them (of course, they love chicken). The outcome is the dogs now eat regular pedigree chum gravy packs, with us keeping a special eye on the diabetic dog.

The other problem was that we could not always get Royal Canine or any other make tinned diabetic food, or biscuits.

Sugar in rice? Really? Well, I'm diabetic and the LHG literally force feeds me rice  with no ill effect.... Pretty sure rice is high in protein and carbs, but low in sugar content or am I getting that wrong?

Pedigree Chum was always one brand that I thought was safe - not so in China apparently. Copies or different and dangerous additives put paid to that one for me!! TBH, can't say I've ever trusted dog or pet foods since (even after returning to the UK) - always wondered where it was produced or imported from. Never-the-less, after being brought up on "home foods", our Bob wouldn't touch tinned foods etc. regardless of being brought back to the UK...

Dogs and their allergies eh - can certainly be a pain, but what the hell - they're family!! How have your dogs reacted to chicken? A case of the "trots" or something more serious?

Check it out.

It's like most things, a little bit of something bad doesn't do anybody any harm. I'm diabetic, but don't eat diabetic food. Just careful, and my sugar control is perfect.

Our Rottweiler had her hair falling out, as did her daughter. Latest problem is out small dog, keeps coming out in skin sores - quite nasty sores as well.
