Where can I rent a bicycle?

So what is going on around here and where does it happen? This section is for discussion on local events, festivals, and holidays as well as activities and things to do.

Where can I rent a bicycle?

Post by caducus »

I am a frequent visitor to Hua Hin ( I live in Bangkok) and a keen cyclist. The trains that I am able to travel on with my bike depart at rather inconvenient times.

So does anyone know where I can rent a bicycle in Hua Hin. Not just a 'going-to-church-on-Sunday, sit-up-and-beg' model, but a full-size multi-geared vehicle.

I look forward to your replies.

I have seen a few for rent around Hua Hin but to be honest they were a bit knackered, the only decent ones I have seen were at the Hilton, they were newish Trek mountain bikes but were about 600 - 700 bht a day!! Apart from that I haven't seen any.

Bloody hell! You can rent three motorbikes for that much and you wouldn’t have to peddle. I have seen mountain bikes for rent opposite the Sofitel, but they were a bit battered looking.

I know its crazy pricing, I suppose they think Hilton recidents won't mind paying! You can buy a new one for 12.000 bht.

There's a group of guys who go on regular lengthy cycling trips touring the countryside. They have the odd problem with dogs chasing them but it's something I'd like to do on a quiet road.

Sorry, don't know their board handles but ask around a few bars and you'll find out more.

Thanks to those of you who have tried to answer my question. I shall have to look around and see what I can find. If I do come up with anything suitable I will post deatils for any other cyclist in Hua Hin without anything to ride.

I will NOT be making use of any facilities offered by the Hilton Hotel.

The last time I was in Hua Hin in October 2006 I was not successful in locating any rideable or affordable bicycles for hire.

As almost every poster on this board remarks how much Hua Hin is changing, I will therefore repeat my original request.

Is it possible to rent a roadworthy bicycle for a reasonable sum anywhere in Hua Hin?

Try the bicycle shop between soi 43 and 45. When my mate was here on holiday he hired a decent multi gear from there - hire charge was 200 baht for the day. We went to Cha Am and back without any mishaps so the bike was definitely reliable.

The guy in the shop knows his stuff and gave the bike the once over before we left - brakes, tyres etc all checked. Pretty sure he'll do a decent deal for a longer term rental.

Hua Hin Bikes is located between sois 45 and 45/1. I was there on 7th July and asked whether they rented bicycles - I was told that they did not and they were unable to tell where I could rent a bicycle in Hua Hin.

As a lifelong cyclist it has been my experience that bike-shop staff are extremely helpful to fellow cyclists. This experience has been reinforced by my dealings with Pro-Bike in Soi Sarasin (behind Lumpini Park) in Bangkok.

Hua Hin Bikes seem to be the exception to the rule.
