Tonnes of carcinogenic cadmium in Samut Sakhon go missing

Post by Big Boy »

10,000 Tonnes? Really? That's one hell of a convoy of juggernauts to go missing. 250 x 40' trailers if they could load 40 Tonnes on to each one. Then you have to ask the question why? From what I've read it was removed from a land fill site in Tak, so I presume it had already been disposed of safely. Something doesn't add up.

Tak seems to be land locked, so it couldn't have been shipped by sea,

It seems that there is a suspicion that it was illegally smelted, the company wasn't licensed to do that:

So they've found more than they lost :D

Transported over several months. Weren't the trucks stopped at weigh stations, where loads were checked? Quite a lot of deceit/negligence methinks.

I suppose when they were transporting it, it was just truck loads of soil so no one cared.
I think the problem is the carcinogenic pollution caused by smelting it in an unauthorised fashion. Someone has dug up 10,000 tons of buried mine tailings, moved it across the country and churned out clouds of cancerous smoke to make a buck from the recovered cadmium.

Where there’s muck, there’s money and where there’s money there’s muck - and this story sounds very mucky!!

^What worries me about these sort of cases in Asia is that I'm left with a suspicion that this sort of thing goes on all the time and this one only came to light because something went wrong.

As B.B. states in his opening post..10,000T is a helluva figure..that's 400 x 25T truck-loads..Now that's a very fat brown envelope I suspect! There must be many folk accountable for all of this, but let's not forget that more of that big figured money, if offered, will make the whole issue go away..TiT.
