Dannie Boy……everybody I met during my extended stay at the airport understood that this was effectively the storm of the century and there would probably be delays or problems in the aftermath. I am a frequent flyer but have no experience of claiming for delays etc. At the beginning of the delays all of my fellow passengers were in the same boat and not one mentioned a compen claim due to delays as they understood the situation. As I mentioned, the delay notifications came regularly and extended the delays about 15 mins before the last delay was due to run out. It was all scheduled to extend automatically. At one point I counted the flight delays on the departure board and there were 42 out of about 50 flights. After many many hours it became a joke but that kept us on our toes and confined us to gate seating areas. Sometimes, probably just for a laugh, they would announce a further 2 hour delay but also tell us to move from Terminal A gate 12 to Terminal C gate 24. This generated a lot of excitement and it was fun as every other customer on delayed flights was told to move as well. A bit like pass the parcel for adults although we all had hand luggage instead of a gaily painted paper box. After the current 2 hour delay had passed we realised we were playing the same old game. It might take an expert on aviation law to unpack this but in my opinion the continued delays were a legal manoeuvre to avoid cancelling flights. If the flights had been cancelled then Emirates might have been liable for hotel rooms etc. In my mind I wont receive any compen and truth be told Im not that bothered about it. But Dannie Boy is correct in saying….just tell us the truth. We’re big boys and can handle it. Ps. Where’s my luggage?
