Having relied on motorbike, getting close to time now when I am thinking af buying a car (being bounced off my bike by a hit and run focussed the mind somewhat !!!).
If its not a contradiction in terms does anyone know of a garage which is english speaking and can help with paperwork etc in HH ?
Knowing damn all about cars - apart from them having 4 wheels, its easy enough to get ripped off in the Uk so I am a prime target in Thailand !!

If you are talking about a new car, then it obviously depends on what make takes your fancy. I bought my Toyota some 4.5 years ago at the dealer in Cha Am and they were great (this was before the one in Hua Hin opened up). I did a part exchange deal for my old Kia, and they brought the new pick up to Hua Hin and picked up the Kia and sorted all the paperwork out. I believe you are required to have a non immigrant visa of some kind to be able to be the owner of a car here though.They have also been very good whenever i have something done, like a service or fixing a problem. However I can't advise on second hand dealers at all.

If you're looking for a second-hand car, for not a huge amount of money, I'd recommend Khun Gai.
Not only does he deal in the cheaper end of the market, but he speaks extremely good English, and is a really nice bloke. We went to his place to buy a car to replace our ageing Nissan Cefiro (which we love). He took one look at it and said 'Why do you want to sell this lovely car, let's fix the problems and she'll probably be OK for another year or two'. He could have sold us one of the many cars he has (within our price range), but for considerably less money we're sticking with the aged Cefiro. He also has a band of 'proper' mechanics, so if you have any problems with your car he's the best we've found so far in the area.
Can't remember the Soi number, but his place is on the left as you go towards Cha-am from Hua Hin, and is just after the flowers in the central reservation start (opposite the palace grounds) and about 50 metres before the new traffic lights.

Had a 'senior moment' last night and couldn't remember the name.
I've got it now it's called L Service - I think it's written in both Thai and English. It's not a large place, just two or three townhouses wide, and it's literally right on the pavement.
